Thomas Quigley Obituary

Major Thomas More Quigley USMC (Ret). November 11, 1965 - March 9, 2006), was born in Chicago Hts., Ill, and moved to Tucson as a toddler in 1969. Tom is survived by his loving wife Sylvia Reid, his precious son Christopher Jack, his parents retired Judge John M. Quigley and Esther Quigley, his sister May Colette Skowron (Steve), brothers John Michael, Jr. (Trudy), Dan (Ane Marie), Christopher, Patrick (Sherie), Kevin (Julie), 32 first cousins and a very large extended family including several aunts and uncles. Tom was surrounded by his loving family when he departed this life to join his heavenly father following a valiant and heroic nine year battle with cancer. Tom was a proud graduate of Salpointe Catholic High School and the University of Arizona where he received his undergraduate degree in 1987. Having also been a member of the Naval ROTC program, he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the United States Marine Corps in August, 1987. Promoted to 1st Lt. in August 1989 Tom served his country during Desert Shield and in the combat zones of Desert Storm. Tom finished his Marine Corps career as a Major in the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron. Following his medical retirement from the Marine Corps, Tom successfully pursued a civilian career in technology information, going back to school, receiving an MBA degree from the Univ. of Phoenix and serving the people of Pima County with distinction and respect as Information System, and Help Desk Manager through the end of 2005. With all these challenges, he still found time for fishing trips to the White Mountains with his several brothers, also bringing along little Christopher when school allowed. Visitation will be held starting at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Bring's Broadway Chapel, 6910 E. Broadway with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Maj. Thomas More Quigley, USMC (Ret) Scholarship Fund. This fund will be used to assist students attending Salpointe Catholic High School. Contributions may be mailed to: Kevin D. Quigley, Quarles & Brady, 2 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ. 85004-2391.

I still live in Tucson and near the neighborhood where we were kids and I often think about us kids playing football and hanging out afternoons in the lush grounds of Gale Elementary School. Thanks for the great memories even still Tom! I look forward to seeing you Tom in the lush Kingdom of Heaven!

My most recent encounter with Tom was in high school in 1983. It is reassuring to read that he carried forward and shared his humor and his commitment throughout his life. I feel priviledged to have shared some time with him. Thank you.

To the Quigley family: I am so very very sorry for your loss. I have so many memories of my childhood schoolmate Tom and they are all very special. I would carpool to OMOS school with Tom and Kevin. After school we would play football at Gale school, drink from the sprinkler heads and goof around till the sun set on us. We had lots of laughs. Sadly I lost touch with Tom as I went to public high school but I heard of his great achievements and was proud to hear. I will away remember Tom with great pride and fondness. I am so fortunate to have known this great and funny guy. May God bless his family.

Sylvia and Christopher,

When I was informed of Tom's imminent passing, I was greatly saddened. I spent alot of time thinking of the carefree days of our childhood and that feeling of invincibility that young men carry with them. We are not so invinceable. The phone calls with old friends of Tom's and mine brought back ton's of fond memories of growing up together. Tom was an exceptional human being. He will be missed. My wife Kathy and I send our warmest thoughts and our prayers to all of the Quigley/Ryan/Duffy clan.

Thomas Quigley died in the Catholic Faith of his fathers. No one can ask more than that. The members of Miles Jesu have prayed for Tom now for nearly 10 years, and his courageous fight and beautiful death are the fruit of many prayers and a great soul. As one of Tom's first cousins I am terribly proud of him and will miss him...but not for long God willing. We'll meet in our Father's Home up above. God speed soldier!

I worked with Tom Quigley in the IT Department at Pima County. Tom was always quick with a smile and good humor and was always willing to help. Sylvia and Christopher, and the entire Quigley family, I am so saddened to hear of Tom's passing. He was a wonderful man and always had a great smile and laugh and he was so great with Matthew, when the two boys would play together. He loved that Mustang car and loved to talk to my oldest son , Michael about what it meant to be a Marine. He is the epitome of what it takes to be a man, father, and husband.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to Tom's wife and son as well as his whole family.

Tom was my first contact with Pima County's IT department and of course I presented him with a challenging and difficult task. He did as much as he could, went back to his department and did what he needed to do to figure it out, it took a few tries but he was able to complete the project and even with a smile. He was my favorite person in IT because of his quiet friendly manner and always fixed the problem, no matter what. He had a great sense of humor and we often talked about our children. (vastly different ages though!)I remember running into him at the grocery store and thinking ohmygosh of course I'd run into someone I know the one time I go the store looking really awful.

I feel privileged to have known Tom.
