Thomas Tirone Obituary

Tirone, Thomas
Thomas Tirone passed away on February 29, 2012. Born in Buffalo, NY to the late Edward and Josephine Tirone on May 31, 1936, Tom was known for his work ethic and love of family. Career highlights included 20 years as police officer in Buffalo; 20 years in the Coast Guard, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer; and 17 years as a probation officer for the State of Arizona. A high school dropout, he took great pride in earning his GED and later his B.S. in Criminal Science from Buffalo State University. Plagued with heart problems since his late 40s, at 70 he was implanted with a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) that greatly improved his overall health and gave him five years of life he would not have had otherwise. It was a gift he did not waste. From then on, Tom truly enjoyed and appreciated every day he had on earth. He is survived by his one true love, his bride of 54 years, Jeanette. In addition to Jeanette, Tom is survived by three children: Paula (Tim) Hill, Edward (Patricia) Tirone & Thomas (Catherine) Tirone; sister Mary (Frank) Greico; and eight grandchildren: Jillian Barkley, Nicholas Barkley, Kelsey Hill, Brett Hill, Kimberly Tirone, Alexander Tirone, Sarah Tirone & Joshua Tirone. A viewing will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W. Thunderbird Road, Peoria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 11 AM at the Church of
St. Thomas More, 6180 W. Utopia Road, Glendale. Burial with full military honors will follow at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mayo Clinic, Dept. of Development/LVAD Research, 13400 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ 85259.

Jeanette and family -
I wish I could have been with during this difficult time. My sister Angie and I have many fond memories growing up with Tom. Our families spent all the holidays together and Tom, Billy, Angie and I went to the Niagara show for the movies. We grew up closer than cousins - almost sisters and brothers. We also have fond memories spending summers at the cottate in Evans and cherish those wonderful, innocent years. Tom, you will be missed and you and your family are in my prayers. What a wonderful tribute in your local paper. I'm so glad I visited your family a couple of years ago and Ang & Chuck were fortunate to have them visit in Florida last month.
Cousins, Jennie, Angie and Mary and family.

Tom we thank you for 20 years of a beautiful friendship, you are the true meaning of what good friends are about. You came into our life and you not only touched our hearts, you left your finger prints all over them. You will be truly missed, and forever remember.

Smooth sailing mate.

My cousin Tom was always a class act and he truly instilled a sense of family in us. He was much loved by his Buffalo Tirone cousins and will be truly missed.
