As a quondam Nutley High School sophomore biology student of "Mr. Pec" (as he was affectionately and in homage called by many of his students; and his wife Anne, a registered nurse who taught home nursing and social hygiene, "Mrs. Pec"), I echo Tom Jannuzzi's tribute: Mr. Pec had a modest yet gentlemanly manner, and a moral and intellectual seriousness and integrity, gravitas. I recall in our lab classroom his frequent unfurl of a vertical screen during his lectures, as he'd project data tables and, e.g., images of frog anatomy preparatory to our dissection, or magnified from a microscope slide.

Yet too his singularly droll sense of humor and wit could coruscate. He having introduced us to International Scientific Vocabulary ("ISV") and proper taxonomic protocol, my most indelible memory of his obiter dicta (incidental lecteurial commentary) is of his once having chalked on the blackboard "Boobus americanus," his unique coinage for a species and specimen of American he admonished us not to be nor become. That witticism and its wisdom has stayed latent with me since.

Rest in peace, "Mr. Pec" (Supernova biologica americanus) in the pantheon of great, colossally evolved and ideally differentiated humanist teachers who inspire generations of those fortunate to have been under his sage, kind tutelage.

My memory is of Vincent Pecoraro, the science teacher who at all times was also a source of support and encouragement for his students. He was modest in demeanor, but strong willed and inspiring in his dedication to his life's mission as a teacher. A school is blessed when it has even a few teachers like Vincent Pecoraro.
