Wendell and I met on the train when we both headed to Howard University as freshmen. The train started in TX, picked up me and Willie Harper in AR; stopped in OK and picked up more freshmen. Headed to KY and picked up Wendell. By the time we arrived at HU, there were about 21 of us. We became besties. We were family. We hung out together. Wendell gave me his high school photo to seal our friendship. We were never a couple, just great friends. Often, we would get our tickets for the same day so we could travel together on the school holidays. We lost contact for many many moons. About 15 or 20 years ago, we connected via social media. He told me he was married to a beautiful woman and he was living his best life. I am so very sad. Wendell was a good, good man. He was kind, decent and well bred. I was thinking about tonight and decided to goggle his name. Even though it has been many moons since we have seen each other, I feel the pain of mourning. 240-525-5739

I was startled to discover that my old friend had died a number of months ago. Wendell and I became friends during the summer months of 1980. Together, as energetic young men, we experienced many, many happy hours. He was a true inspiration. A warm, mild-mannered guy who always put a smile on my face - and good thoughts in my head. Wendell, I'll miss you, my man! I am deeply saddened by your passing.

Shocked and saddened learning about Wendell's recent passing. Truly a lively spirit and wonderfully open, warm personality and long-time friend. I'm in disbelief and praying for his wife Heidi and his daughter. Lots of great memories of fun times together while living in Des Moines, IA as well as his visit to see my wife and I after we moved to the East Coast (NJ). I'm glad I was able to visit both he and Heidi once in Phoenix and will cherish this memory as well. Wendell was definitely too young and vibrant to leave us and he is in God's hands now. I'm still just in disbelief.

Appreciate my cousin and knowing him while he was on this planet. Veteran like myself he paid the price for God and country. He had a great sense of humor, that sense of gab,& how much he loved his wife Heidi and his family. He will always be in our hearts and remembering that smile of his.

Wendell and our family go way back to the 60's as we were neighbors and friends. My mother and all of us loved his parents John and Sarah and our great friend, sister Barbara. Wendell was a very wonderful boy growing up and very respectful and successful man. We all loved calling him friend. So glad that my sister and I got to see Wendell and Heidi in their home. He opened the door with a Holmes Bulldog Hat on. He always made us laugh. We loved him and his family!

From youthful, fun days in the Midwest, college years in DC, his voyages around the world in the Navy, a rich professional career, and a loving life and marriage with Heidi in Phoenix, Wendell remained a smart, kind, good-natured and considerate friend. Blessings to his memory, spirit, and family.

We will always remember the vacations that we took together. It was great fun golfing together, while exploring the sites in California, Oregon and Utah. Wendell was a good friend who left us too soon.

I had the pleasure and honor of knowing Wendell since we meet in Knoxville, TN in the late 1970's early 1980's. We kept in touch throughout the years and played golf on my visits to Phoenix. A mutual friend John Harshaw and I were co-best men at his wedding. Wendell will be greatly missed, loved, and respected by many. My heart goes out to Heidi and the entire Hisle family.
Love and Blessings,
