Wenonah Cosmas Obituary
Phoenix - Wenonah Cosmas was born Wenonah Arden Shipman to William and Caris Shipman on February 25, 1939 in Columbus, Georgia. Wenonah was raised with her younger siblings Bryan Shipman and Linda (Shipman) Swanson in Columbus and Savannah, Georgia; Mobile, Alabama; and Macon, Georgia. Wenonah graduated high school in Macon, Georgia in 1956. Shortly after graduation, Wenonah began nursing school in New Orleans where she met a young medical student named Thomas Cosmas. Wenonah and Thomas were married in New Orleans in April 1959. From there they lived in Utah, California and even Guadalajara, Mexico. They settled in Phoenix, Arizona where Thomas began his internship. Wenonah and Thomas started a family in 1965 and were the parents to David Cosmas, Mark Cosmas, and Maiken (Cosmas) McDaniel. Wenonah later returned to college to complete both her bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing. Wenonah worked as a labor and delivery nurse for many years, helping bring countless babies safely into the world. Wenonah joined her beloved Thomas, her parents and her granddaughter Taylor in heaven on Saturday, December 15. Wenonah is survived by her children David, Mark and Maiken, and her grandchildren Ashten, Mia, Sean, Cade and Addison. Funeral services are being held at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary on Thursday, December 20 at 10:00 am. Visit www.hansenmortuary.com for online condolences.
