John Barrett Ashenhurst, 71, of Flagstaff, Arizona, passed away unexpectedly at home January 9, 2014. He was born to John and Elizabeth on September 29th, 1942 in Florence, South Carolina.
Coming from a long line of family members who served their country, John's wish as a teenager was to serve as well. He enlisted in the Army serving six years and was instrumental in teaching code during the Cold War period.
After being Honorably Discharged from the Army, John went on to raise a family in Southern California. He was a remarkable man. A gifted artist, sculptor, and teacher, he started his own Art Production Painting Company in Santa Monica, California, and worked in the Hollywood Film industry, in editing and promoting Films with Lighthouse productions.
He and his wife Gretchen were married for 35 years and until recently always helped her students along in the painting classes at the Sedona Arts Center, in Sedona Arizona.
A loving Father, Husband and Friend, he will be missed by everyone.
John is survived by his wife, Gretchen, and from his first marriage, son Brian, daughter Heidi, his grand children and great grand children. He is also survived by his nephew Edward L. Cannan (and Maggie), and niece Kim Cannan.
Arrangements for a celebration of John's life are being planned.
