Charlene Kirschner Cothrun
1945 - 2018
Charlene Kirschner Cothrun, 73, passed away on August 14th, 2018 from congestive heart failure at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. Charlene was born on June 13, 1945, the daughter of Willis Wollard and Elene Henlin in Wilmar, California.
Charlene was a very social and diligent student. She enjoyed reading and remained a committed reader throughout her life. She graduated from Rosemead High School in 1963. Soon thereafter she graduated from beauty college, where she found her true passion and won numerous competitions. In 1964, she married Dennis Stafford Kirschner. She gave birth to a child, Ernest Dennis Kirschner, in 1972. The family moved to Taft, California in 1984, and she would become the Westside's beloved barber and hairdresser for over 30 years.
She worked alongside her husband at The Razor's Edge barber shop until his death in 2012. She would continue running the barber shop on her own and, on April 15th, 2014, would embark upon the great romance of her life when she married Dr. David Cothrun. Their time together would be the happiest of her life. In addition to her good works through her time volunteering with her sisters at Soroptimists International of Taft and lifelong membership with the Taft Historic Fort Preservation Society, she always had a kind word for friends and strangers alike.
Charlene is survived by her husband, Dr. David Cothrun of Taft, California; her mother, Elene Tabone of Albany, Oregon; her sister, Joanne and her husband, John Pearson of Scio, Oregon; her son, Ernest Kirschner and his wife, Kirsten Kirschner of Santa Maria, California; her granddaughter, Tori Kirschner of Bakersfield, California; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends. She is preceded in death by her twin sister, Marlene Claire Cupersmith; her stepfather, Joe Tabone; and her first husband, Dennis Kirschner.
There will be a memorial to celebrate Charlene's life at Taft's Historic Fort on Saturday, August 25th, at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to the Fort Preservation Society, 915 N. 10th St. #2 Taft, CA 93268.

My dear friend, how we will miss you! Thank you for all of the years of love for my sons. Your gentle spirit was the perfect match for my son with autism. Haircuts weren't easy before we met you! You weren't only our barber, you became a surrogate grandmother to my boys. You spoiled them so much with blue Jolly Ranchers, your encouragement was always so appreciated. I'll miss you at every Soroptomist Luncheon, I'll miss hearing about David, Ernie, and Tori. I'll miss you terribly. The world is a little less without you. Memory Eternal.
Loving you always

It was a pleasure to have known you. Thank you for always being so kind. Although we didn't speak often it was always such a nice feeling getting a random text from which usually consisted of I love you.
Thank you for being such a wonderful grandmother to our Tori. Those precious moments with you will never be forgotten. I love you, Charlene.
