CHARLES DANIEL UNG
January 26, 1952 - December 17, 2018
Charles Daniel Ung, known to his family and friends as "Danny," unexpectedly passed away at the age of 66 years on December 17, 2018.
Danny was born in Bakersfield where he attended East Bakersfield High School graduating in 1969 before embarking on his 40+ year career with United Parcel Service (UPS). He began his career at UPS as an interim employee in the early 1970s and became a full-time employee soon thereafter working his way up until his retirement in 2017.
Danny was an avid tennis player and loved the challenges brought on by the sport. His passion for the sport included teaching his nephews and nieces how to the play the game. He enjoyed spending time with his family and going to Las Vegas with his best friend Mark Grogan to execute his art of playing the slot machine. Danny was the best uncle to have around growing up - he was a genuine and soft-spoken person with a heart of gold.
Danny was preceded in death by his father James Wah Ung, mother Lillian Lee Ung, brother James Richard Ung, and sister Gwendolyn (Ung) McWilliams. He is survived by his sister Jerri L. McPhetridge, nephews Michael McPhetridge, Terry McPhetridge, Timothy Ung, and nieces Tina Chaney, Shawna Mason, Robin Jacobs, Theresa Cohen and many cousins.

A man of many sport related talents and said very little. Always allowing his skills to speak for him. An incredibly warm personality, I knew him from middle school through high school. Rest easy my friend.

He was a man of few words but a man who was always true to his word. Though he was my only uncle, he was the best and most fun uncle I ever could have wished for. I'll miss him all the days of my life. :( I love you, my uncle-man, Dan!
My wonderful Uncle Danny.

I am so sad to hear of Danny's passing, I last spoke to Danny last year, as he had just retired from UPS. Danny and I played tennis at Laurel Glenn Tennis Club, for about 10 years. RIP Good Friend.
