Dorothy Carolyn McGee (Brereton) passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at the age of 66 after a short, courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 9, 1950 in New Haven, Connecticut. Dorothy lived in Santa Barbara until she met and married her husband, Dennis, in 1978, moving to Bakersfield.
She worked at Hall Ambulance for the last 11 years, loved to be active in the Ladies' Guild at Christ the King Catholic Church in Oildale, and enjoyed gardening at home. Special thanks to the women of the Ladies' Guild (Peggy, Cristina, Gloria, Tracy, and more), who kept her company during her illness.
Thanks also to Mr. Harvey Hall, Terry Adams, and the Hall Ambulance family for all of their help and support, as well as Hoffman Hospice for their effort to keep Dorothy comfortable during her illness.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Dennis, her sisters Maureen and Diane, her daughters Kristen and Katie (son-in-law Mike), and her grandkids Tyler, Hannah, Grant, and Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Brereton and Elizabeth Smith, and her brother Charles. Dorothy will be deeply missed, but she is with the Lord and at peace.
Services are planned for Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Christ the King Catholic Church, with a lunch reception immediately following; 1800 Bedford Way, Bakersfield, CA 93308; Rosary will be at 6p the previous evening, Friday the 26th.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Christ the King Catholic Church.

It is hard to believe that it was the summer of 1964, when Dave Vogel and I knocked on Dorthy's door on Sunset Drive in Santa barbara. We had all just finished at San Roque. We had a dance coming up at Bishop High pretty soon and neither one of us knew the first thing about how to dance. So, Dorthy opened the door, and said "yes....." We told her what was up. She thought a moment, and invited us in. She grabbed a brand new 45 record she had just bought, and put it on the record player. It was the Beach Boys "I Get Around". She said she was teaching us one single dance step, but that we could always take off off of that, and improvise. It sounded great to us. And so the three of us danced that afternoon, until Dave and I had it down(Dave died in 1992 from melanoma- too much tropical sun in the USAF, in Thailand). Thanks for the lesson Dorthy(You were a great cheerleader, too!!!)Bye for now!! Mark R. '68.

Dorothy's passing was certainly too sudden and I hope that her family and friends will remember the good times. I enjoyed her as a classmate for approximately four years at San Roque and for my one year at Bishop. It was a pleasure to see her at reunions and her familiar smile, laugh and sunny disposition bridged the span of years apart. I will remember her fondly as a treasured classmate in my youth.

Dorothy, you will be so missed. When I see you next you better be planning the best WWH weekend in the sky because I'll be ready to party! I'll even bring Nina so she can chew on your blow dryer for old times sake. Love you always, Deb

We are saddened by our loss, but Heaven is brighter because of her smile. From grade school to high school to reunion years, Dorothy was a constant beam of light that we all gravitated to. Her laugh and smile were infectious. She was kind and compassionate and our memories of her will keep her alive, always. My sympathy to Dorothy's family for their great loss.

You were always the leader in our shenanigans even though I was older. A true friend, confidant and always had your back has left us. But I believe we now have an angel watching over us. Bye for now, Muriel

My deepest sympathies for your loss of a lovely lady in every way. Although we didn't see each other very often, we were always glad to see each other. I considered Dorothy a dear friend, as did so many of her Bishop classmates. She left this world much too soon and will sincerely be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with Dorothy's family during this very sad and difficult time.
Sweet Dorothy-truly a kind hearted person with the brightest smile and the greatest laugh. It was a joy to be around her and listened to funny stories and share good memories, and how much she loved her family.
We first met at Bishop High School in Santa Barbara, Class of 1968. Then had the pleasure of meeting again at Class Reunions,
Always one of the best part of the reunions was to see Dorothy again, because she brought such happiness to so many with just her presence.
May there be comfort in knowing Dorothy is at peace and a shining star in Heaven with God.

My deepest condolences to your family during this most difficult time. There are no words that can ease the pain of losing someone so beloved. May you find comfort and peace in knowing that your loved one is in God's memory, because those who pass on are precious in his eyes. Psalms 116:15

Dorothy was one my my closest friends in elementary and high school in Santa Barbara :) We all called her Dottie.
She was so much fun and always kind.
She was there for me when my Dad died when I was 16. I can tell you, because of Suzi our mutual friend, All her classmates knew of her diagnosis and were united in serious prayer for her in her last days here. When she passed on the sweetest words she ever heard was when she saw Jesus and he told her "well done, good and faithful servant"

I worked with Dorothy for 9 years and sat right behind her for about 2 years. I miss her stories she was almost always in the mood to chat about anything. I was amazed at how much she experienced it seemed like she had been everywhere! She definitely lived life! Miss you friend.
