A Celebration of Life
Services: Sat., April 27, 10 a.m.
Emma Lee Dixon was born on October 27, 1931 in Boley, Oklahoma in Okmulgee County to the late Mr. & Mrs. William Curtis Dixon. She was also known as Ms Emma and Aunt Emma. She departed this world to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 20, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Hospital.
Emma loved life along with the finer things in life. She enjoyed life to the fullest by traveling to many places. She had many experiences that most people will never experience in their lifetime. Emma loved to bake and cook. She also had a great green thumb because she enjoyed taking care of plants and trees. Someone said, Who do you know that could grow a tree in their home? Only Emma Lee Weldon, and she did, she had two in her home.
Emma attended college and received her Associate Degree in Counseling in 1965, from Bakersfield College. Emma was employed from 1965 to 1968 as an LVN at Kern General Hospital. Because of the long hours and time away from the family, Emma decided to go back to school. She continued her higher education by attending California State University of Bakersfield and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Teaching and her Masters Degree in Couseling. She was about 3 credits shy of receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California.
Emma Weldon was employed as a teacher by the Kern County School District from 1966 to 1997. After 31 years of service, she retired in 1997. She received many awards and was recognized in 1993 for her exceptional dedication to students and was inducted into the Teachers Hall of Fame. She was also known as the best potty trainer in the county. Emma Weldon held many positions within the community and was an active member of Delta Sigma Theta.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. William Curtis Dixon, Sr.; three brothers, James, Fred and William; and one sister, Bobbie-Jean. She leaves to celebrate her life, two sons and one daughter, William Erwin & Linda Weldon of Anaheim, Willie Ray Jr. & Janice Weldon of Los Angeles and Frances Elesa of North Carolina; two sisters, Jean Lacy of San Diego and Cleo Fifer of Fresno; and one brother, Charlie of Boley, Oklahoma. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Brandee Weldon of Houston, Texas; Valerie Weldon of Dallas Texas; Brandon Weldon of Los Angeles; Andre and Averi Weldon both of Anaheim; one great grandson, Brandon Weldon of Los Angeles; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at the Church of God Evening Light Saints, 1802 Virginia Ave., Saturday, April 27, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will begin Friday, April 26, at 1:00 p.m.
