To Li and children,
I knew Eric before you. I've always enjoyed him. He was a "good man." Active and doing is how I will remember him. He was no laggard. He always wanted the best for you and your family. And from the "vacation stories" we talked about when Ets and I met with you all the last time, he was adventurous, if not daring (?). But you made it through.
Li, you have wonderful young ladies with husbands who care for them. You are a blessed lady. And we KNOW Eric was truly blessed in having you as his wife. Love, Takeo and Ets.
ps: Sorry for the late entry. Ets and I were in Europe when your e-mail arrived. I wanted to have the time to adequately convey my thoughts to you all. ty

Dear Mrs.Small, Deborah & Anna,
Today by mail, I found out about Dr.Small's passing. It was just two months ago, that his face was the last one who said good bye to me as I walked out the door of his office.I am very saddened. He will be very much missed. He has been my dentist since I moved here 2001. I even got braces in my forties because he encouraged me to do so and I am happy about that. He was very nice and a soft spoken man, and all his staff have been wonderful. We will pray that God will uplift and bring peace upon you and your children, now and each passing day. Thank you Dr.Small, you will be missed! Blessings to all of you. Your patients, Arthur & Caren Laguna Bakersfield, CA

Dear Ligia, Deborah and Anna,

More than a month has passed since Eric's passing and I find myself compelled to express the varied emotions cast upon me at any moment in time. For me, Eric's legacy is one of passion, caring and concern for his family. The road we should choose to follow in his passing is the one that will bring a smile to our faces. My fondest memories are; Eric walking Deborah down the aisle to give her away during our wedding, The many Christmases we spent together, Eric participating in the birth of his grand children (what a moment!), Eric holding Ian and Kaitlin for the first time, Eric and I running through Toledo Spain to catch the bus, The time in Madrid smoking Cuban cigars and drinking Spanish Riojas, Always being amazed at how Eric could fall asleep any where at any time, Eric allowing Ian to watch up close while he took a drill to one of my teeth, the many times over dinner when Eric would crack a joke that only a man could appreciate and we would exchange an acknowledging smile and most of all, I remember the thousands of times we were all together as a family.

No one dies as long as there is one person left in the living world who remembers with fond recall and shares a thought, though that person has gone ahead.

"God walks upon the hills; I saw him in the flight of wild geese winging south at morn and when the night came running down the stairway of the trees, God called my heart to rest with whispering of leaves." Author Unknown

To the Family of Dr. Eric Small:
I only learned of Dr. Small's passing today, and was shocked. I had been a patient of Dr. Small's since moving to Bakersfield in 1990. He was a kind, gentle man. Always took time to listen, always genuinely concerned about the well-being of everyone. I truly enjoyed the semi-annual visits with my dentist. Our prayers are with you all for healing of this pain, and may you only keep all the good memories and share with each other often. God Bless. Robin Schultz and Robert Allen
