Levaughn "Lee" Carson
1928 - 2018
Memorial Services will be held for Lee Carson at 2 pm Saturday, February 24, at Mill Creek Christian Church, 1660 S Street, Bakersfield, California.
Lee was born April 29, 1928 in Delaware, Ohio. On January 11, 2018 she passed on to share the Joys of Heaven with loved ones who preceded her. Lee will be remembered not only as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, but also for a life sharing her gifts of music and drama as a teacher at Compton Jr. High and Arvin High School, and as a performer on Bakersfield stages for many years. Her range as an Actress was astounding. As a youth Lee performed on the radio in Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour with her brother Jim, shared the silver screen with Shirley Temple and could be seen in The Little Rascals TV Show. Lee attended Ohio Wesleyan University where she met husband, George Carson. Their marriage produced four children, Debby, George, Jennifer and Julia. Lee dedicated her life to her family. As the children grew, Lee was able to invest some of her life into Local Theatre. She can be remembered for roles in Starlight of Kern's productions of Bells are Ringing, Lil Abner, Brigadoon, Oklahoma and her unforgettable portrayal as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, to name a few. In later years Lee would be seen portraying parts in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Lysistrata, The Gin Game, Side By Side by Sondheim and Radio Gals. She also directed and acted for several seasons with the First Baptist Church's Singing Christmas Tree. Lee loved to lead Bible Studies and speak to groups. She was once asked to speak at a women's retreat because they wanted a woman whose "glass was always half full." That was Lee.
Piano player, actress, singer dancer, dedicated mother, and devout Christian, Lee is survived by her children and their spouses, Debby and Tim, George and Terri, Jennifer and Rick, Julie and Kurt, her brother Jim and wife Patty, 6 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. We will see her again, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".
Extraordinary person we all agree, there will never be another Lee.

George and Lee Carson were a part of our lives for ages. She taught our younger son at Compton. One of our daughters sang in George Carson's choirs at East and Highland High. My prayers are with the Carson family. Nina Palmer
