Michael Hale Obituary

MICHAEL B. HALE

March 31, 1946 – October 29, 2024

Mike Hale; aka Dad, Pops, Big Mike, Ekim Elah was born in Bakersfield, California on March 31, 1946.

Mike attended Garces Memorial High School, Bakersfield College and Fresno State. Mike did not play football at Fresno State; however, he beat several of the football players in arm wrestling.

Mike married the love of his life, Bonnie Hale. He had a love for hot rods and traveling to car shows, which he and Bonnie did for several years.

Mike was a jokester to his last days. Always the life of a gathering, regardless of what it was. He had a joke for every occasion: "Look at that dead bird fly", "want to see a picture of my pride and joy!", "want to see my baby picture?", "did you know I was born with one eyelid?". The list goes on!

Mike drove trucks for over 20 years where he worked at Oil Fields Trucking, and Kern Rock. Mike retired in 99' when he and three other buddies started a small business. This kept him busy for several years.

Mike moved to Hart Flat where he lived for over 20 years. He fostered many new relationships learning how to live in the mountains and found his forever home.

Mike is survived by his son, Mike Hale, daughter in law Kristen, granddaughters Bree and Jenna, brother in law John Olsen, nephew Johnny Olsen and sister in law Vicki Breaw.

In lieu of flowers, please make a monetary donation to Houchin Blood Bank. Mike had donated over 29 gallons of blood.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Historic Union Cemetery.

Back in the day, you were Michael and he was Mike. I'm the Honda driver from the cul-de-sac who had your mother on speed dial for whenever you challenged my car with your bicycle! I'm so sorry for your losses (both Bonnie and Michael). Your family was a credit to our wonderful La Cresta neighborhood.

My condolences to Mike and all the remaining family in this season of loss and grief.I worked with Mike at Kern Rock and we became friends, besides work mates and i was always telling him that wearing a Rolex while delivering concrete wasn't a good idea, but my advice wasn't accepted... Matthew 5:4

I will miss you dear friend. I met you in kindergarten and, even then, you were taller than the nuns. Thanks for the laughter and being unexpected. Seriously, who drives around the Fr. Garces circle 100 times.

I've reflected on meeting up with Mike in Santa Barbara about 15 yrs ago after he took me to see my dying mom. We had the best time & hooked up with another classmate. He had a big heart. My condolences to the family.

Big Mike was my brother Bob´s best friend in high school.
They played basketball in our driveway under the lights until the neighbor complained.
My brother died of agent orange after Vietnam, Big Mike was the only classmate that attended his wake, a "true friend". May God Bless his
Soul !
