Raymond Hicks Obituary

Raymond George Hicks was born on July 27, 1918, in San Francisco, CA, to Edgar and Amelia Hicks. He passed away peacefully on Monday, November 20, 2006. Ray was raised in Palo Alto, graduated from Palo Alto High in 1936, and went on to San Jose State University, where he met his bride to be, Barbara. He was a member of Stanford Scout Troop 51 for many years, advancing to Eagle Scout. Ray served three years in the Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate in several airports in the Philippine Islands during WW II. Ray first worked at the Palo Alto Garage for three years. He started working for Standard Oil as a hall boy and worked for them for 43 years in Real Estate & Right of Way. He transferred to Bakersfield in 1959 and retired as the supervisor of an area that stretched from L.A. to San Francisco and from Nevada to the coast. He was well respected and liked in the business community. Ray was a member of the Oildale Lions for over 40 years, and participated in many community activities. He was a Scout Leader for Troop 410. He donated blood to Houchin Blood Bank until he was 83. Ray enjoyed his mountain home at Bass Lake. After retirement he and Barbara were able to spend more time there where they had a home for many years. Ray had been coming to Bass Lake since he was a teenager and loved the many boats that he had there over the years. Ray will always be remembered as a humorous, helpful, thrifty, handyman, believing if you start something, stick with it. He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Barbara, who he met in engineering class at San Jose State. He is survived by son David and his wife Cyndi, by son Brent and his wife Lori, daughter Alison Card and her husband Ken, grandchildren Erica and Amy Hicks, Ryan and Kyle Kuhlmann. Also his sister-in-law Jan Sellick. A memorial and remembrance of Ray will be held on Saturday, November 25, at Northminster Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. Raymond George Hicks July 27, 1918 - Nov. 20, 2006 Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary

Dear Hicks family,
We are sorry to hear of the passing of your father. I first met Ray when I bought my house 18 years ago across the street from him and your mother, what lovely people, back then I worked out of town alot and Ray and Barb kept a eye on my house while I was gone. He did love to talk about his boats that he has had and his cabin, Ray would come over when he got a chance to chat a bit and feed my dogs milk bones, he sure liked my dogs, some times I would catch him sliding milk bones under my gate. We would talk a while and he would say " I'd better get on back home before Barb notices I'm gone, 'cause she will come looking for me and I don't want to make her mad" and he would strole on back home. I bet Barb didn't get to mad.
We will sure miss him, our hopes and prayers are with your family.
