Robert Ferguson Obituary

Wildcatter, Robert "Bob" Bruce Ferguson, 93, passed away peacefully at home on May 8th in Capistrano Beach, CA. Bob was born on February 25, 1924, to Roy and Grace (Bodley) Ferguson in Los Angeles, CA. John and Richard (predeceased) were beloved brothers. He spent his youth in Glendora and was active in sports at Citrus Union High school. He graduated in 1942 and was Senior Class President. He then attended Stanford University for one year before joining the army infantry during WWII (1943-1946).
Bob served honorably in Japan, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. Returning to Stanford University, he graduated in 1949 with a BS degree in Geology. Bob, aka Fergie, was a proud member of Theta Delta Chi fraternity and stayed "in the bonds" with his brothers over his lifetime. As a Petroleum Geologist in LA, he started his own company, Bob Ferguson - Independent. He owned and operated the Asphalto oil wells in Kern County, CA, and invested in other production. He was involved with many professional organizations in the oil and gas industry, such as CIPA (Founder and President); IPAA (VP of CA South area); AAPG (Advisory Board of Division of Professional Affairs); SIPES; NSWA; and WGA. He was well respected by his peers. This led him to be politically active on behalf of the oil and gas industry, meeting with senators and congressman over the years. Proud of his Scottish heritage, he was an active member and served as President for 2 years with the Clan Ferguson Society of North America, he was also a proud American and a lifetime member of the American Legion and Yacht Club in Newport Beach.
In his leisure, he enjoyed competing in beach volleyball into his 70's, traveling, reading non-fiction, and spending time with friends and family. He was also an avid Stanford football fan and supporter.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Diane; his stepchildren Lori Lundstrom and Eric Johnson; his grandchildren Jessica and Cameron Lundstrom; his nephews Dr. Tim Ferguson of Glendora, CA, John Ferguson of Centennial, CO; his nieces Lora Jean Caldwell of Pacific Palisades, CA and Grace Stitt of Black Mountain, NC and his many other relatives.
A private burial at sea is planned for June. He'll be memorialized in a family plot at Oakdale Memorial Park in Glendora, CA.
