ROBERT ALLEN KLASSEN
January 20, 1947 – February 6, 2025
Robert Allen Klassen, known affectionately as Bob to his friends and family, left an indelible mark on this world when he passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side, in Bakersfield, California, on February 6, 2025. Born in the same vibrant city on January 20, 1947, Bob's journey was a testament to a life lived with passion, dedication, and a boundless love for those around him.
Bob's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife of 55 years, Deborah Klassen, his devoted daughter Krystal Parker and her husband Troy, his first name sake Aaron Allen Klassen with his wife Marci, and his treasured grandchildren Caiden, Blake, Troy, Tryston, Jacey, Kylie, and Jameson. His bonds with his brothers Phil, alongside his wife Pam, and Jerry with his wife Susan, were unbreakable, and together with many nieces, nephews, and extended family, they formed a circle of love and support that was the cornerstone of his life.
In 1959 Bob publicly acknowledged his commitment and acceptance of Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior when he was baptized at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church. The same church that his father Jim Klassen built. His faith in Jesus laid the foundation of the character that Bob emulated. He lived by the example that Jesus gave and His words, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Bob's scholastic journey began at Shafter High School, where he graduated in the Class of 1964 before continuing his education at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, earning his degree from the School of Architecture in 1969. His professional path was marked by innovation and excellence; he started his career at Frapwell and Ghezzi, later spreading his architectural wings to establish Robert Klassen Architecture. The year 1977 marked a significant milestone when Bob and his brothers launched Klassen Corporation, showcasing their collective vision and hard work. His skills were recognized far and wide, as he was licensed in several states, and his dedication to his community was honored when he was named Man of the Year by Bakersfield College.
Bob's zest for life was contagious. His love for rock and roll was not just a hobby but a pulse that ran through his veins, often enjoyed at high decibels that matched the intensity with which he lived every moment. He was the happiest when sharing experiences with family and friends, whether it was treating them to lunch or exploring the western states in his Country Coach. The sounds of the waves crashing at the beach or the rustling of the wind in the trees at their property in the Sequoias were the perfect backdrop for the laughter of his adoring grandchildren, a sound that was music to his ears and fuel for his soul.
A man of many talents and interests, Bob's generosity knew no bounds. He was a beacon of wisdom, always ready with a word of advice or a listening ear. His loving nature enveloped everyone he met, and his legacy is not just in the structures he designed but in the hearts he touched and the lives he enriched.
As we remember Bob, we are reminded of the power of living a life full of love and generosity. He was a man who not only built places to live, to work, to study and to worship but also built a community, a family, and a network of friendships that stood the test of time. Bob's story is one of triumph, a reminder that the footprints we leave behind are not in the sands of time but in the memories we create, the love we share, and the wisdom we impart.
Bob's life was a symphony of joy, love, and laughter, a melody that will continue to play in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His was a life well-lived, a narrative of success, not just in his career but in the richness of his relationships and the impact he had on the world around him.
As we bid farewell to Robert Allen Klassen, we celebrate a life that was nothing short of extraordinary. He was a man who taught us that the true measure of success is not in the accolades we receive but in the love we give and the joy we bring to others. His spirit will live on, guiding us to live with the same fervor and passion that he did every day of his remarkable life. We can hardly wait to meet you on the other side. Until then you will be loved and missed every day.
