Robert Henry Rocha Jr., 68, passed away on September 12, 2023 in Bakersfield, California. He was born on November 25, 1954, in Maizuru, Japan to Robert and Hani Rocha. Bob married Joan Van Boening on July 17, 1999. They enjoyed 24 years together. Bob began his career with the County of Kern in February, 1978. He held various positions before he moved to the Probation Department where he stayed until his retirement in March, 2006. He loved his job and the many friends that he made there. He also served proudly as a Kern County Reserve Sheriff. He graduated from the Sheriff Academy in 1983 and retired after 25 years of service.

Following retirement Bob enjoyed going to Pismo Beach several times each year in the RV. He also volunteered for CALM Holiday Lights and was involved in many activities in his community Highgate Regents; his favorite was being part of the Travel Cooking Club and cooking food from various parts of the world.

Bob is survived by his wife, Joan, sisters Suzi Rocha and Kathline Stein, brother Mario Rocha; stepsons Jeffrey Burns (Melanie), Jacob Burns (Crystal), and Joshua Burns; grandchildren Brynnan, Shaw, Donovan, Dominic, Caleb, and Claire Burns; and 7 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Jon Van Boening (Phillis) and Bill Van Boening (Gail) and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ralph.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 7, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Parkside Church, 2515 Church Ave., Bakersfield, with a graveside service following at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd.
