Shirley Mulholland-Persinger Obituary

SHIRLEY A. SCHUBERT-MULHOLLAND-PERSINGER

December 7, 1935 – July 26, 2025

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, September 12, 2025. Rosary will be recited prior to mass at 9:30 am at St. Francis Catholic Church, 900 H Street, Bakersfield, California. Shirley, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025, with her husband by her side.

Shirley was born in Refugio, Texas on December 7, 1935, to Rudolph and Lillian Schubert. She graduated from Woodsboro High School in 1954 where she was both valedictorian and a standout athlete. Shirley attended the University of Houston where she met and married Owen "Moe" Mulholland on October 31, 1956. They were blessed with seven children.

After several early moves, the family settled in Bakersfield in 1963. Shirley had her hands full managing home and family while Moe pursued his career as a drilling fluid engineer. He started his own company in 1966. They eventually opened Polychem Intl Corp where Shirley ran the administrative duties until its closing following Moe's death in 1998.

She was blessed to find love again when she met and married her husband Lee in 2002. They enjoyed many activities and traveled together over the next 20 years.

Anyone that knew Shirley recognized that her faith was the center point of her life. As an active member of St. Francis community, she served in many roles such as choir director, Eucharistic Minister, and President of St Francis School Mothers' Club and countless other committees over the years. Outside of her church community, she was involved in many civic organizations that serviced the Bakersfield community.

Shirley will be remembered for her deep faith, kind heart, melodious voice, beautiful smile, and love for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Rudy Schubert, her first husband, Moe Mulholland, and her beloved daughter Lorraine Mulholland. She is survived by her sister, Kathie Westley: her husband Lee Persinger, her children: Patrick (Jennifer) Mulholland, Daniel (Janet) Mulholland, Dennis Mulholland, Michael (Jesa) Mulholland, James Mulholland, and Maureen (Daniel) Haer. Grandchildren: Melissa Mulholland, Patrick Mulholland, Lauren Carson, Matthew Mulholland, Taylor Lillard, Brandon Mulholland, Bryanne McCown, Kaylee Mulholland, Kellen Mulholland, John Mulholland, Owen Mulholland, Madeline Tyler, and Paige Etie and 12 great-grandchildren.
