Sonja Robles
January 6, 1950 - February 12, 2021
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails." - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. Sonja was the essence of love. Her home and arms were always open for anyone in need of the love she so freely but fiercely gave. She was a devoted sister and friend but above all Sonja was a remarkable wife, mom, and grandmother loving us all faithfully. On February 12th, 2021 heaven gained another angel, Sonja Robles.
Sonja Robles was born on January 6th, 1950 to Maurice Alvarez and Angelita (Sanchez) Alvarez in Bakersfield, California. Sonja was one of 5 sisters and 3 brothers. Sonja loved growing up with her big family. Her memories forever carried close to her heart. In June of 1969 Sonja met the love of her life Robert. They married August 29th, 1970 and had 4 beautiful children. Sonja and Robert were married for 50 wonderful years. For many years, Sonja's occupation was a clerk for Bakersfield City School District. She decided later in life to advance her education where she attended Bakersfield College for 2 years then transferred to California State University of Bakersfield there she graduated with her bachelor's in liberal arts. In 2001, Sonja started teaching at McFarland Middle School for 9 years until she retired in 2009. After Sonja retired, she began her favorite hobby traveling the world with her husband and best friend Robert. They traveled to many destinations including Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, South America, Ireland, England, Scotland, Paris, and the Mediterranean. Treasuring their time spent together or with friends, family, and new acquaintances. Sonja cherished quality time with her family and friends whether it was playing games, watching her favorite baseball team the Dodgers, swimming, barbecuing, camping, birthdays, holidays, and reunions. She was the perfect illustration of true love. Sonja will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts and memories.
She is survived by her husband Robert Robles; children: Efren, Monique and Jessica (Jaime); 6 grandchildren: Brett (Annette), Blake (Ashleigh), Natalie, Donavin, Rachael, and Scott; 7 great grandchildren; siblings: Evelyn (Mayo) Jaso, Sylvia (Daniel) Felix, Sister-in-Law Teresa Alvarez, Bernard (Mary) Alvarez, Laura (Alexander) Santa Cruz, George (Margaret) Alvarez, and Lisa (Raul) Palomino; Sister-in-law: Sandra Robles; Brother in law: Hector (Beatrice) Robles and Thomas (Rebecca) Robles and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Maurice and Angelita Alvarez, her brother Maurice Alvarez, and loving son Michael Robles.
Our family would like to thank everyone for the continued love and prayers. It was Sonja's request to not have funeral services until it is safe to do so. Services will be set for a later date.
