What moves through us is a heaviness, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.
I am so blessed to have had someone like you in my life. You always had words filled with wisdom, truth and love. I will never forget the man I was able to call, "Dad".
Love, your daughter

My grandpa was such a wonderful man! He always had a smile on his face! In the 23 years I knew him, he taught me so many things I will take with me the rest of my life: how to play numerous card games (and always win), shuffleboard and pool, appreciate all kinds of music, and mostly how to have fun! I have comfort that anytime I look at any of his sons I will see a piece of my grandpa in them. Rest in peace grandpa....I will see you again one day!

I thought super hero's never died. You are the greatest dad anyone could ever ask for. Once I moved out of the house you weren't only my father you became my best friend. if it wasn't for you and grandaddy teaching me how to be a man i wouldn't be able to make it thru this. GOD thank you for giving me 37 years with this man and please ease the pain in my mothers heart. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ.

From the first time I understood who you were to the last time I saw you, I will never forget you and the way you encouraged me to keep my head up and keep "Doing whatcha do" I don't think I got the chance to really say what was in my heart to say but I thank God that you had the nerve to tell me just what you wanted me to know and needed to hear. I thank you dearly for that, somehow I think you knew that's what I needed,
You will be missed but will remain in our hearts Love ya "God Dad-Uncle Sunny"

Sunny was such a kind man. Always there for support. You could catch him from time to time at a track meet or basketball game showing support for his nieces and nephews. A man with great humor. I will never forget playing a card game with him and him spreading his whole hand out for me to see and just saying "Now what do you want to do?" I really didn't know what to do, he got me again, and he won the game. Sunny was truly an asset to the Hicks family and all that he came in contact with, he will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

God bless the entire Hicks Family. Let's not forget to thank god for the time you were given to share with him.

Vaughn was, in every sense of the word a Gentlemen. He also provided an excellent example of a life well lived! He was one of the most competent and reliable colleagues I had the pleasure of working with. His nautral style of leading by example and gentle counsel was remarkable and successful. It was my gain that our paths crossed. Godspeed my friend until we meet again.

Vaughn was a great helpful, neighbor. I recall ,sometime after "The Great Bakersfield Snowstorm", a huge limb from my stone pine tree broke, crashing into the street. In the darkness of night, it was Vaughn, with his chain saw, who led the team to cut and clear the huge log and debris from the street. Vaughn always , waved and smiled to all. Vaughn and I used to enjoy consulting about our lawns, as well many other contemporary topics of the day. Vaughn was an enjoyable nieghbor during my final years in Bakersfield. May peace be with you and all your family Vaughn......Robert Weedon, (Sacramento, CA.)..

"Sunny" was a great example in many ways. He also loved us, and he demonstrated his love for the family in his own way. He was the family's greatest supporter/cheerleader with our endeavors. "Sunny's" last courageous act was to take the pressure off the family by typing out his own funeral requests, to which all will be honored. Although he was taken from us suddenly, I'm very thankful that earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. I loved my oldest brother very much and will miss him dearly.

Vaughn was a special friend to myself and many other co-workers. He was always there to help any of us during difficult times. When I think about Vaughn, I think of his unique laugh, but most of all... what a good man he was. I'll miss you, friend.
