Zander and I met as freshman in UMBC, taking mechanical engineering courses. Looking back, it's no surprise he reached out to offer his help to anyone who needed it. We lived together for two years and saw each other every few months after that. I'm proud to say that he never changed his attitude of helping whoever he possibly could, even if that was through... unconventional or inconvenient means. He really did have a heart of gold. The world lost a great man who shouldered more burdens than most and still managed to send out his love on a daily basis. I'll do my best to take those lessons to heart, Zander, and pick up those less fortunate on our collective path upward. Rest in peace, buddy. Love, Matt.

I love you brother, I´ll miss you Zander. We met the first week of undergrad at UMBC playing basketball and that would always be our main way of bonding. We were supposed to meet up to hoop again the month before the COVID pandemic happened but our plans fell through and we weren´t able to reschedule since then. We´ll have to hoop in Heaven when we get to hang again.
Recently, we were talking about him pursing his passions in music, and if he wanted to make it big. But he said he didn´t care to make it big - only to love ppl, and share his music with the world. He knew this life was all about loving others and leading people to God through his gift of music.
He was truly a person who loved people and cared about people, and he was one of the most genuine people anyone could meet. Sweet soul. I love you forever brother.

I met Zander at UMBC. He was part of a group of people that ended up being amazing long lasting friends that forever changed my life. I had just moved from Puerto Rico and I didn´t know how to speak English well and him and this group of kids doing a major in chemical engineering made me feel for the first time in my life accepted and loved and cared for. Zander introduced me to Pho, which I love and eat on a regular basis. He told me how to make it really good: to add sriracha and hoisin sauce in the same amounts. To this day is the only way I eat Pho. The day that I got the first acceptance letter to graduate school I decided to throw a party. The night of the party, it just so happened that someone had brought a professional camera and told me let´s take pictures. I gathered all my friends from ChemE: Chris Yankaskas, Laura Blevin, Rosie, Dalton, Saqib and Zander. That picture is now 12 yrs old. About 7 years ago Facebook resurfaced it and I remember thinking: "wow, I loved each one of these people so much and I haven´t talked to them in so long..." Shortly thereafter, I realized that that was the last time I have seen all of them at the same time. It breaks my heart realizing that, in fact, that was going to be the last time we all would be together for the last time. It breaks my heart to know that I won´t see Zander getting married, having kids or fulfilling his purpose and pursue his passions and I won´t get to see him to grow old. I wished he knew how much he meant to me. I wished we stayed in contact more. I wished things were different. I truly hope he is now in a place where pain is no longer part of him.
