Boomer Kennedy Obituary

Born on December 1, 1956 in Westport, Connecticut, Boomer Kennedy passed away on June 10, 2024. She mastered everything from car mechanics to fancy pastries. For 20 years she ran her own auto repair shop, Chicago Auto, in Cambridge, MA where she was a pathbreaking and celebrated woman entrepreneur. In the 2000s she exchanged her wrenches for a chef's toque, attending the Culinary Institute of America and working as a pastry chef at the world-reknown French Laundry. She later moved to Albuquerque and then Santa Fe, New Mexico where she ran a frame store with her beloved partner, Martha. Most recently, Boomer had been living in Baltimore, serving as unofficial mayor of the Patterson Park Community Garden, treating all passing dogs and people to cookies and good conversation.

In honor of Boomer's incredible life, friends and family are invited to a celebration at the Patterson Park Community Garden on Friday, June 14 at 4 pm in the Bull Ring near the community garden. Donations in Boomer's honor may be made to Friends of Patterson Park, 27 S Patterson Park Ave, Baltimore, MD 21231.

I knew Boomer through business. I sold her auto parts. The business relationship meant npthing compared to just knowing her. We would meet for lunch in central square and talk about the world.
She was unique and wonserful. I was just thinking of her and decided to google her only to find out thar she passed.
Rest in peace. May her memory be a blessing to us all.

There are too many memories here to share just one about Boomer Kennedy. She was a force - funny, witty, bold, a little crazy, a rallying center for lesbians in Boston in the 1980s. She started the Chicago Struts, the women´s softball team sponsored by her auto repair shop. I was the second baseman. We were a terrible team. The slaughter rule ended many a game before seven innings. But we were cool, smart, political and loyal women. And Boomer was our leader. RIP old friend!

Just like your brothers, sisters and parents, you always greeted me with the biggest Kennedy smile, regardless of how many months or years had passed since our last connection. I regret not having spent more time getting to know you and your incredible life experience, but I hope to bring some of your happiness and joy to those around me in the years to come. Rest in Peace Aunt Boomer.

I will remember Boomer as a fun and kind aunt. At one of our annual Kennedy family trips to Maine, she taught me to play poker! I was pretty young, but she included me in the adults-only evening card game, which was pretty special, and we actually won a couple hands! Rest in peace Boomer. You will be missed. Love, Heather.

I will always remember how excited I was as a kid to find out that my aunt Boomer had the same birthday as me! You always took time to ask us cousins what we were up to and what our interests were. We will all miss you Boomer and may your soul rest in peace- Love Kolbe

I was so sad to hear of your passing, Aunt Boomer. I wish I could have known you better. The memories I have are all touched by your singular spirit--your ability to talk to your nephews as if we were peers, your quick laugh, and your sharp wit. You are missed by your family and fondly remembered.

The news of your passing was so sad to hear. I will forever cherish the memories we did have. The hours we spent on FaceTime talking about our day and the drama of our lives. Thank you for the knowledge and the wisdom that you showed me. And for never forgetting a birthday. Rest in peace auntie.

I remember watching Pitch Black with you and my brother James. We were way too young, and at one point the F word was yelled, so I remember freezing in my seat and expecting to be yelled at. Because you know James and I had put the movie on then Boomer came in and had asked if we were allowed and if it was appropriate. So of course having never seen the movie we said "oh ya it´s fine, we watch this movie all the time, my parents are okay with it". In stead of getting yelled at Aunt Boomer laughed her head off and said "that´s a great line!"
I know you´re still the coolest Aunt. I will miss you. Love Samuel

The news of your passing saddens me greatly, Aunt Boomer, as I wish I would have had more time to know you better. In the little time that I did know you, I saw the sweetness and kindness of your spirit. You had a very caring heart. May you enjoy peace now with Grummy, Papa, and Nate.

She was an amazing smart and accomplished woman, I recall she worked with AIDS patients back when there were no medicines, I met her 40 years ago, and was impressed by her tenacity! And running a women owned mechanic company. She was a doer, for sure! My deep condolences to the Kennedy family and all who were touched by her. May she rest in peace knowing that she made the world a little better
