Dr. David H. Shamer Sr.

On January 23, 2002, DR. DAVID HOWARD SHAMER, SR., 73, of Albion MI, formerly of Baltimore, MD, born November 27, 1928 at Baltimore MD Womens Hospital to Bertha Elizabeth Tapman and Maurice Emory Shamer. He was married to Dolores Kempf (this marriage ended in divorce). He attended Windsor Hills Elementary School #87, Garrison Junior High School and Forest Park High School, graduating in 1947 (all in Baltimore). He went to Universtiy of Maryland, graduating in 1951 with a B.S. in Zoology; attended graduate school, receiving his Masters Degree in 1952, later going to University of Maryland Dental School, graduating in 1958. He served in the Army for 2 years, 1952-1954: at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland for 17 months, the Fort Sam Houston in Texas to be trained as a medical technician. He served in the Naval Reserve from 1955 until 1974, retiring as a Lt. Commander. He served an internship at Lutheran Hospital of Maryland in Baltimore for one year and worked at their dental clinic. He practiced Dentistry on Harford Road in Baltimore for 6 years, then worked at the Parkville Medical Center. While in Maryland, he lived in Parkville and then in Upperco. He retired in 1982 and moved to Albion, Michigan to live with his sister and husband, Drs. Miriam and Harold Daily and he remained in the Albion area until his death. Survivors two daughters, Katherine Anne of Maryland and Margaret Elizabeth of Maryland, one son David Howard Shamer, Jr. of Delaware, two sisters Dr. Miriam Abbott Shamer Daly of Albion, MI and Margaret Shamer Peterson Quigley of Troy, MI. Several nieces and nephews. Memorial Service Saturday, February 2, 2002 at 7 P.M. at Wesley Chapel First United Methodist Church in Michigan. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. The family will host a supper at 6 P.M. at Tennant Hall in the First United Methodist Church and family and friends are welcome on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Baltimore Opera Company or The Albion-Homer United Way. Arrangements are by The Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels, Albion, MI.
