Edward Clancy Obituary

CWO-4 (BOSN) Edward F. Clancy, Jr., U.S. Coast Guard Retired, 79, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, passed away on Thursday, June 6th, 2024. Edward was born in Washington, D.C. to the late Margaret S. Clancy and Edward F. Clancy, Sr., ENCM, USCG (Ret.).

Ed joined the USCG in 1965, where he rose through the enlisted ranks to Chief Quartermaster, was commissioned a Chief Warrant Officer (CWO-2) (Boatswain) in 1977 and retired from active duty as a CWO-4 in January 1996. During his Coast Guard career he served on a variety of cutters, in addition to tours at USCG Headquarters/Cutter Division, and as the Shipyard Docking Pilot at the USCG Yard in Curtis Bay, MD.

After moving to Jacksonville Beach, Edward worked for Florida State College at Jacksonville as a Project Coordinator, Instructional Program Coordinator, and Adjunct Instructor from 2003 until 2013.

Preceded in death by his wife Betty, his best friend and love of his life for over 50 years and by his brother, Robert W. Clancy, BUCS, USN, (Ret.). Edward's survivors include: his sister Eileen Biegel of Southport, NC; his sister-in-law Deanna Jean Gruzs and her husband Walter of Joppa, MD; his sister-in-law Janet Montgomery of Baltimore, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephew, other relatives, and many friends.
