Harding Roberts Obituary

">ROBERTS, Harding Iglehart ">HARDING IGLEHART ROBERTS, 87, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2003, in Orlando, Florida. He was born in Baltimore, MD and was a resident of Central Florida since 1989 where he enjoyed his hobbies of making stained glass pieces, painting, photography, travel, Koi fish and Chinese cooking classes. He was very fond of Japan and visited frequently collecting beautiful art works. During WW II he was assigned to the 3264th US Army Signal Corps as a cinematographer at the former Paramount Studios, Astoria, NY. His commanding officer was Frank Capra, well known Hollywood director. This experience led to his assignment in Nurnberg, Germany, August 1946, for the War Crimes Trials of Goering, Hess and other high ranking German Officers. He was the only American cinematographer assigned to film the Malmedy trials and Dachau. Returning to Baltimore after the trials he applied his film talents and experience to the expanding industry of Television and became a cameraman, going on as a floor manager and producer/director with WAAM-TV [now WJZ-TV]. One of his most important exciting challenges was a three month assignment to Ethiopia filming a documentary at the invitation of Haile Selasse. At the time of his retirement he was with Monumental Films, Baltimore. He is survived by his wife June L. Roberts of Orlando, FL and nieces June D. Keener of New Port Richey, FL, Joy Unglesbee of Sykesville, MD, Judy Hannah of Union Bridge, MD and several great nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on September 20, 2003, 11 A.M. at Mays Chapel United Methodist Church, 11911 Jenifer Road, Timonium, MD. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

We will miss our Uncle "Rocks" and his wonderful sense of humor. He was well read, and you could talk to him on just about any subject. We have many fond memories over the past years, and is hard to believe we won't be doing "Disney" with him anymore. We will surely miss his smiles and stories.
