Harris Jones Jr.

1935 - 2017

Harris Jones, a native of Baltimore MD passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 6, 2017 after a brief illness. Born October 28, 1935, he graduated from Gilman School in 1954, and then University of Georgia in 1958 with a degree in Business Administration. While at UGA, he fell in love with his lifelong partner, Liz Jones and they were married in August 1958. They were deployed to Aviano Air Force Base, Vicenza, Italy where he was responsible for all USAF finance in Italy from 1959-62. He then joined IBM Corporation with marketing and sales responsibilities for large regional banks, hospitals, universities, and government. He retired from IBM in 1992 after 30 years yet continued to work with the company as a business partner until formal retirement in 2008. Harris was happiest on the Elkridge Club golf course, tennis and paddle courts. In recent years, he turned to cards as with gin rummy and bridge garnering his attention. He recorded 3 holes in one. He was junior warden at the Church of the Good Shepard. He loved woodworking, furniture restoration, fine wine, international travel, and virtually any book on American history. He is survived by his dearest wife, Liz Jones after 58 years of blissful marriage; a sister, Bannon McHenry of NYC; four children, Weezie Lietzau of Baltimore, Harris Jones of Sewickley, PA, Walker Jones of Boston, and Selden Morgan of Baltimore. A memorial service will be held at The Church of the Good Shepard, 1401 Carrollton Avenue, Ruxton, MD 21204 on Wednesday April 12, 2017 at 4pm.
