Howard Marc Halpren of Owings Mills, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at the age of 64. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love that will echo in the lives of all who knew him.
Howard was the deeply proud father of Joshua Halpren and Daniel Halpren (Leah Harrell), and the devoted husband of the late Risa Bush Halpren, with whom he shared 25 wonderful years. Today, there is some peace in knowing that they are together again.
He is also survived by his cherished mother, Miriam Halpren; his treasured sisters, Sheila Silverstein and Eileen (Howard) Rothouse; his dear sisters-in-law, Karen Bush (Michael Reamer) and Bonnie Bush (Tim Brown); his caring mother-in-law, Harriette Clark; and his father-in-law, David (Marge) Bush. He was predeceased by his loving father, Julius "Trucky" Halpren, and his dear brother-in-law, Craig Silverstein. His many nieces and nephews will remember Uncle Howard with laughter and love.
Howard was the anchor of his family-the steady, funny, and fiercely loyal center around which everything revolved. A proud Cohain, he carried that identity with quiet dignity and found deep meaning in its traditions and responsibilities. His old soul found comfort in the tangible: paper, pencils, and the memories of the "good old days."
Known for his sharp wit and perfectly timed dry humor, Howard had a way of lighting up a room without ever trying to steal the spotlight. Whether dressed in character for a Ravens tailgate-where he played the infamous "Mr. Tailgate," showing up to strangers' tents with a grin and a plate-or offering advice to a first-time homeowner, Howard believed in connecting with people face to face. He cultivated relationships like gardens, tending to them with warmth, wisdom, and just enough mischief to keep things interesting.
He was a passionate lover of music and pop culture, with a particular love for live concerts and band posters-many of which lined the walls of his home like personal trophies. Nothing made him prouder than watching his son Daniel thrive in the world of sound engineering, often beaming with pride when he got to tag along for backstage access or a VIP tour. In those moments, he wasn't just a fan-he was part of the show.
He was also profoundly proud watching his son Joshua follow his mother's footsteps into teaching and continue her legacy of igniting the love for learning into generations of young scholars around the world.
Howard Halpren lived with heart, with humor, and with an unwavering loyalty to the people he loved. His memory will be a blessing-and a smile-for all the days to come.
