Hubert Lott Obituary

LOTT , Hubert E. HUBERT E LOTT, 75 of Murphy, NC, died Friday, September 14, 2007 at his home in Ranger. Hugh, originally from Halsted, PA, served in the U.S. Army. He left Baltimore, MD upon his retirement as a lawyer and Federal Judge specializing in Labor Law. In 1993 his love of fly fishing and rabbit hunting was only enhanced while driving thru Murphy. That very day he found a house and property that was perfect for his needs. He had a deep respect for the environment. His greatest passion was growing beautiful roses. Hence, the name of his home "The Rosery". As an avid reader, especially Civil War and American History, the Murphy Library was a favorite haunt. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Carl and Doris Williams Lott. Surviving are his wife of 12 years, Kathleen, a daughter Lisa and her husband David MacGibeny of Towson, MD, a son, Dr. Andrew Lott and wife Robin of New Haven, VT, 5 grandchildren, Collin, Emily and Julia MacGibeny and Liam and Nathan Lott, 3 step-children, Mary Kate Monaghan of Cardiff, MD and William and Francis Monaghan of Baltimore, MD, 4 step-grandchildren, Brien and Zachary Monaghan of Cardiff, MD and Aidan Monaghan and Amberleigh Monaghan of Baltimore and a sister, Betty Lake of Towson, MD.
Funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2007 at St. William Catholic Church in Murphy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to "Friends of Murphy Public Library", c/o Jeff Murphy, 9 Blumenthal St., Murphy, NC 28906.. The Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, Georgia is in charge of arrangements. You may send condolences to the family and sign the guest register at www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.

Hugh and I worked at the NLRB in Baltimore for several years. He was a fine colleague and I will miss him. May he rest in peace.
