Jacob Davis Obituary
Jacob Brantly Davis passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025 in Naples, Florida, his adopted second home.
Jake was born in 1936 and raised in Glen Burnie, Maryland. His father, G. Nelson Davis was a local business owner, and his mother H. Myrtle Davis (nee Finkner), was a homemaker. One of Nelson's many enterprises, Greenway Bowl, remained in business for over 25 years after Nelson's death, with Jake and the family carrying on the operation. Jake graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1954 and attended the University of Maryland College Park. Although not a serious student, he later went on to matriculate to the University of Maryland Law School, and upon graduation, passed the Maryland bar exam with the highest score of any admittee in 1962.
While in law school, Jake was introduced by a Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity brother to the love of his life, Mary Catherine Noppenberger. Shortly after their introduction in 1960 they fell in love and were married in 1961. Together they raised their three children in Linthicum, Maryland while Jake pursued his 30 year law career, split between Weinberg & Green, and later a local Glen Burnie firm founded by a childhood friend.
Jake was known as a gregarious and humorous fellow who enjoyed socializing with family, friends, neighbors and strangers alike. He was an avid tennis player, stock market enthusiast, reader, skier, and world traveler. Jake enjoyed nothing more than eating steamed crabs with family and friends, relaxing to the view on the balcony of his Harborview condominium in Baltimore City, and most recently, enjoying raw oysters and live music at his favorite Naples dive bar. Those who knew him also knew he could be easily agitated, especially by the hijinks of his three children, mostly all in good fun. His closest family and friends knew he was a truly loving; kind, and thoughtful man who would do anything for a family member or friend in need. Jake knew how truly blessed he was in this life. He spent much of the last 30 years of his life enjoying the easy living of Naples, Florida. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
In addition to being survived by his wife of over 63 years and his children, Steven K. Davis, Stephanie (aka Teffy) J. Davis and Matthew N. Davis (Debra). He is survived by his granddaughter Taylor Marie Davis, who was the apple of his eye for the last 28 years of his life, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Patricia L. Cackoski and F. Nelsa Hosse.
Please omit flowers and in lieu send contributions to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, Florida 34105.
Jake will be interred at St. Joseph Cemetery in Texas, Maryland at a later date.
