Jean Summers

Jean Summers (nee Allen) age 92, died on 02/22/2023 in Cardiff by the Sea, California after a long illness complicated by Alzheimer's. She leaves her husband, Jack R. Summers of Cardiff by the Sea California. Her parents, Cylmond and Ruth Allen of Kansas City preceded her in death. Her sister, Frances Baxter of Forest Hill, MD also preceded her in death. She leaves three daughters, Deborah Hawes of Boca Raton, FL; Ann Johnson and her husband Dr. Richard Johnson of Solana Beach, CA; Cynthia Blount and her husband David, of Olathe, KS; and a son, Stephen Summers of Tampa, FL. She is survived by nine grandchildren, Leona Hawes, Brian Johnson and his wife Autumn, Mark Johnson, Dr. Laura Shahtaji and her husband Dr. Alan Shahtaji; Jessica Ramirez and her husband Carolos; Ashley Tyer and her husband C.J; Katherine Hoban and her husband Nick; Amanda Arel and her husband Dr. Aaron Arel; and T.J. Evans and his wife Kate, and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother and sister in law, John and Joyce Summers of Smithville, MO

Jack and Jean were married May 20, 1950 at the Wornall Road Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO, and enjoyed 72 years of marriage. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States as a result of her husband's job with General Motors. She was an excellent seamstress making many clothes for her daughters including prom dresses as well as tablecloths, curtains and draperies for the many homes they lived in. She enjoyed all card games and in her early years was an excellent bridge player. In her later years she was most happy when cooking and shopping with her children and grandchildren. She was a long time member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Bel Air, Maryland and thoroughly enjoyed bible classes. She attended many of Beth Moore Bible study events in several states.

A visitation for Jean will be held Monday, March 13, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM at El Camino Memorial - Sorrento Valley, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121. A funeral service will occur Monday, March 13, 2023 from 11:15 AM to 12:30 PM, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121. A graveside service will occur Monday, March 13, 2023 from 1:15 PM to 1:45 PM at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA 92122.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate, may do so to the Downs Syndrome Society or to the Alzheimer's Association.
