Joan Foit Obituary

Joan Zimmerman Foit, 89, of Catonsville, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, after a short hospital stay, surrounded by her loving children. She was predeceased by her husband, James B. Foit Jr., her sister, Eleanor Z. Troy and infant granddaughter, Christine Elizabeth Foit. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Joan is survived by her three children, whom she loved dearly: Michele Bent (Mark), James D. Foit (Liz), and Renee Smith (Rob). She also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren, fourteen adored great-grandchildren, and many beloved family members and friends. Joan dedicated 39 years of her life as a nurse at Mercy Medical Center, a place that became her second home. Her compassionate care and unwavering dedication touched countless lives. Outside of work, she found joy in shopping and taking her pictures, but most of all, spending time with her family and friends. She loved a good game of cards and playing Bingo with her friends, always enjoying the friendly competition and camaraderie. A Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on July 12th to honor Joan's memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to The Mercy Health Foundation, https://mdmercy.com/giving or to Children's National Hospital, childrensnational.org/giving/ or The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, https://givenow.lls.org

Her kindness, love, and selflessness will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Joan was a special friend and neighbor to me. She checked on my often and I did the same as we were both single ladies living by ourselves before she moved to Heartlands. Loved hearing her updates about her kids and grandkids. I keep wanting to to pick up the phone and chat with her about neighborhood news or whatever. She is missed. I continue to to pray for her family.

Joan was such a sweet neighbor and friend to my son Drew and I. As a fellow nurse, I enjoyed hearing her stories from her nursing days. She also loved sharing about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed.

Some of my sweetest memories are of Fridays with my grandmother as a kid-shopping all day, stopping at what felt like 10 different stores, then heading to get her hair done before grabbing a bite at Subway or Wendy´s. She gave the absolute best back scratches and taught me how to clean (the right way!). But more than anything, she was always there-no matter what I needed. She never forgot a birthday and made sure to call and sing to me every year.
Her love was constant, and her kindness was definitely unmatched. I will miss her more than words can say, but I am forever grateful for the time I had with her and the memories that will always stay with me.
