Karen Scott

Karen Michele Scott (nee Silberman) was born in Saratoga Springs, New York, resided in New York City, and passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at the age of 75 in Baltimore. Karen was a loving daughter, sister, wife, aunt, colleague and friend to all who knew her. She was a pioneer in the field of broadcast journalism rising to top levels in network news at WNBC and WPIX. She was an acclaimed TV news producer/executive director and won dozens of Emmy, Murrow, AP, New York Press Club awards as well as the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for her news programs. Karen used her platform, staff and on-air talent to promote numerous social causes, charities and human-interest stories in the biggest media market in the world, bringing light into darkness. Karen graduated from Ohio State University, began her career in Detroit, Michigan and left the news industry in 2009 when she began a life changing battle with Alzheimer's. She is survived by her brother Alan (Ellen) Silberman, nephews Paul (Stacy) Silberman, Evan (Sabrina) Silberman, Charles Silberman and great nieces Alyssa Rose Silberman and Sofi Kenny Silberman. She was pre-deceased by her parents Rosalie and Colonel Alfred Silberman and her partner Michael Callaghan.

Services at Sol Levinson 8900 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD 21208 on Sunday February 9, 2025 at 2 PM. Interment will be at Beth Tfiloh cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association online at http://www.alz.org
