One of the truly wonderful Marines I had the honor to serve alongside in 22 MEU (SOC) 1987-1988 timeframe. Bigger than life and a broken service Marine who spent years as a Baltimore "Police Officer". Many a good time in the Mediterranean. One vignette - when his mother was killed walking across the street, we were deployed. As a major, I had a private stateroom aboard the ship and offered that to him to grieve privately. He chose to be in the SNCO quarters with his Marine brothers...handled the tough situation gracefully...and impressively. God bless you Sgt. Major.

SSgt Cromwell was one of my assistant drill instructors in March 1970, Plt 237, 2nd Bn, PI, SC. As a Recon Marine, he left a lifelong memory that was instilled each of us. I proudly look back on graduation day June 5, 1970 as he led, with sword drawn, 3 squads of our platoon as we marched on the parade deck. To this day, I carry with me the pride and honor your dad exemplified as a US Marine. May God bless his family. Semper Fi Sgt Major

Our heartfelt condolences to the Cromwell family,
We were stationed with both Sgt. Maj. and his beautiful kind wife Pat, together in Camp Lejune North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Michigan,
They both wore truly kind and encouraging to make our Marine life strong.
One time Sgt Maj said if you finish your duty station together as a couple you completed your duty station period.
Simper Fi Sgt. Maj. you were a strong influence in our Marine Corps Family.

On behalf of the entire Eaton family, our deepest condolences to the Cromwell family and friends.
SgtMaj Cromwell and my father (Nelson, wife Glennis) served together in the 50's and I was his Enlisted Commander of Troops in his Post and Relief ceremony at Camp Lejeune in the early 90's.
Rest in Peace, SgtMaj Cromwell.
