Michael Laird Obituary
A proud veteran of the U.S. Air National Guard, Mike dedicated himself to serving his community and enriching the lives of those around him. He was a 40 year employee of the Department of Water and Sewer, meter department. He made significant contributions as a basketball referee for High School and Rec., volunteered for over 30 years in the Joppatowne Rec Council, and served as the President of Joppatowne Senior Softball. Mike was not only an active softball player but also had a deep passion for sports, particularly as a devoted fan of the Ravens and Orioles. Mike enjoyed spending time with his grandpups, Boomer and Milo. His love for laughter and joking endeared him to many.
In addition to his wife and children, Mike is survived by his sisters, Pamela Sue Birch, and Patricia Leigh (Tom) Miller, and brothers, Jim (Lisa) VanHorn, Bill (Mandi) VanHorn, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Lynn Davis.
Visitation will be held at the McComas Family Funeral Home, Abingdon, Maryland, on Friday, January 12, 2024, from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm & 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church at 9:00 am. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Joppatowne Rec Council Senior Softball League, with checks payable to "JRC/Senior Softball" at 531 Eckart Drive, Joppa, MD 21085.
