Paul Smith Obituary

Paul J. Smith, 91, of Avalon, NJ – passed on May 1, 2022. Loving husband of the late Anne McDermott Smith for 65 yrs, and survived by his 7 children: Suzanne Nolan Champagne (James), Ann Marie Ryan (Matthew), Bridget S. Hofmeister (Mark), Paul J. Smith, Jr. (Kerry), Christopher G. Smith (Terri), Edward McD. Smith, and Martin J. Smith (Casey); dedicated grandfather of 25 and cherished great-grandfather of 14. Paul was born in Baltimore, Maryland and has been a resident of Avalon, NJ for the past several years. He is also survived by his two sisters, Mary Ellen Sologuren of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Nancy Smith Dentz of Annapolis, Maryland, and seven nieces and nephews.

A Catholic funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church (formerly Maris Stella Chapel), 25th Street and 1st Avenue, Avalon, NJ 08202 on Wednesday, May 4 at 11 am. Interment will be private at Gerald M. Thornton Veterans Cemetery in Cape May County. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in memory of Paul to St. Brendan the Navigator Parish, Maris Stella Church, 252 50th Street, Avalon, NJ 08202 or at https://giving.parishsoft.com/app/giving/stbrendanavalon.
