Dr. Peter John Ferra, 76, of Baltimore County, Maryland, passed away on May 27, 2023 surrounded by his family. Peter was born on April 25, 1947 in West New York, NJ to Nicolena and John Sferruzza. He attended Memorial High School class of 1965. He attained his bachelors degree from Rutgers University and then pursued his medical doctorate completing his studies at Rutgers University. He practiced pediatric medicine in Reisterstown, MD for over 40 years, where he touched the lives of so many in his community.

Peter was survived by his former wife and devoted friend, Norma, his children, Gina Kaplanis (Jason), Gregory (Gabriele), Steven (dec. 2006; Alison), his grandchildren, Bennett, Tate, William, Andrew, and Isabelle, his sisters, Jeannette and Cathy, and his many loving nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 2, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 63 Sacred Heart Lane, Glyndon, MD 21071. A private interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Reisterstown, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Operation Smile (www.operationsmile.org) and Mercy Ships (www.mercyships.org).

Condolences to the family. I just heard about Dr. Peter´s passing and I´m so very sorry. We met Dr. Peter 25 years ago and he was our pediatrician for all four of our children. He´s still brought up to this day quite often in all of our conversations. My children loved him. He gave nicknames to my kiddos that we still use to this day. We will continue to miss you. Dr. Pete- you were put to rest today and it was well deserved. You started out as our kid´s pediatrician and then my boss-the best pediatrician and boss ever. You became family to us and even saw out granddaughter when she was in town. You were a true friend to us and everyone that knew you. There is no better. I am so sorry to hear this news. We loved Dr. Pete!! He was both of my daughters' pediatrician. He watched them grow up, from newborns to late teens. We always felt so comfortable in his office, which was a throwback to an old time country doctor, but with modern medicine skills. You felt like you were stepping back in time with his office being in historic Reisterstown and in that old Victorian house. I can still hear his voice with his New Jersey accent while chewing gum. When my kids were babies, he used to say "how's the peanut" when we would go for office visits. I hope he realized how many lives he touched; he will be missed. Rest in peace Dr. Pete.

When James and I made the decision to pack up and begin a new journey in SC leaving MD 1 reason that made it so hard was realizing I had to find a new Dr for my kids. You were my doctor and the only person I trusted with my children. You were our family along with the entire office. When I realized you were retiring just weeks after my move I cried. So sorry to hear of Dr. Pete's passing, he was a giant in the medical field. Such a soft spoken, compassionate person who always had time to discuss what was on our minds. His answers to us as new parents were always spot on and we never ever felt like we were bothering him, he always had time for us. My children, now 41 and 37 remember him as the best doctor ever and always looked forward to seeing him. The community lost a wonderful man and doctor, his legacy will live on in all his patients. Dr. Pete was not only the kindest, most wonderful doctor, but also a man who I will admire always. Dr. Pete was such a terrific pediatrician. We felt so blessed to have him care for Matt now 40 and Katie now 37. He always showed such care for not only his patients but their whole family. We were heartbroken to hear of his passing.

Dr Pete.... There are no words to describe my feelings. You were not just my boss for 33 years but our family friend like a big brother to me our daughters pediatrician and our granddaughters when they came to town. You listen you guided and gave wise advise. Most of all you were my Best friend! You cared for all and never wanted any fuss made for you. You were kind caring and a father to every single child that walked through the front door. You would not turn anyone away. We had great times in the 33 years you were an Awesome cook! Our family is sending heartfelt condolences to all of the Ferra family. He was such a wonderful person. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren and the children in his practice. When I saw his picture, I smiled right back at him. That is the way I remember him. He used to call Julia- sweet pickles and Ricky- tricky Rick in a very deep voice. Dr. Ferra was so much more the my pediatrician when I was born until I was an adult, then he took on my 5 children. He was family to us. He would reach out and check on my family and I after his retirement. We love you Dr. Ferra.
