Dear Family, I just heard about the passing of Phineas, ( Finney ). I'm so very sorry. I owned the Amoco ( BP ) is Catonsville and I always enjoyed when Finney came in to get gas. He always had a great joke to tell and left us all laughing. I'm sure he is telling them in heaven. I'm retired now for about 4 years and I do miss Finney and all my customers. He was a good man.

My great memories of Phin included our Scout Troop 895 going on our many camping, canoeing and hiking trips. Camping in his mothers front yard in VA, Visiting Carols family in NY and canoeing Long Lake and The Racquet River.
Cold nights at the Scout camp near Hancock and many more. Phin was a wonderful compatriot on our many Scouting adventures.
In my old photos of the events, Phin always had a smile while doing his good work with the boys.

Carole & Family: Words cannot say how sorry I am for your loss and how much Phin truly will be missed. I have enjoyed working for him over the past 24 years. He was a great inspiration, mentor and friend. I will miss his jokes and laughter. Our dog (Flex) misses his dog treats that Phin always had in his pocket for every visit. I don't know who was more happier to see the other, the dog or Phin! The legal ommunity has lost a very diligent and loyal servant. Phin was truly one of a kind and will hold a special place in our hearts. Your family is in our prayers. We will always be here for you. God bless.

When I was elected President of Crab Orchard Coal and Land Company almost 20 years ago Phin was enshrined as the Patriarch of the Board of Directors. He was at first intimidating but I soon learned that I had nothing to fear from him. He was a true Patriarch, he watched over me and helped me when I needed help, he prodded me when I needed prodding, he encouraged me when I needed encouraging. I soon learned as previous Presidents had that he would be my best friend, especially when I needed him. At the last stock holders meeting he resigned from the Board of Directors and said good bye. He said it was time for him to move on and he recommended we replace him with his son Scott. We did as he requested. We told him he would always be welcome and encouraged him to return next year. He smiled and said no this is good bye. So we all said good bye to our friend and Patriarch. He was one of a kind and he did it his way and we are all better off having had him as a part of our life. He shall forever be remembered by the Shareholders and Directors of Crab Orchard and I will have a permanent memorial to him spread upon the records of the Company at its next annual meeting.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
