Robin Getzendanner Obituary
Robin Lynn Getzendanner, age 63, passed away on November 7, 2021, at her home in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Robin was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Minnie (Small) and Joseph Getzendanner, Jr. She was the middle child of five children. Robin attended Our Lady of Victory School and Archbishop Keough High School where she excelled academically as well as in basketball and lacrosse. Following high school, Robin attended Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina where she continued her love of sports on the basketball team and majored in biology.
After graduation from college, Robin was employed at Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Maryland for a number of years. During this time, she continued to participate in team sports, where she made lifelong friends. A change of careers took Robin to the University of Maryland Nursing School where she obtained her BSN in 1991. Immediately after graduation, Robin accepted a position at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Robin completed her nursing career with the Federal Government, retiring as a Program Analyst at the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
While employed at Social Security, Robin met the love of her life, Henry Edward Shryock (Sky), whom she married in 2006 in Catonsville, Maryland. Robin and Sky were the happiest in their lives when they were together. They shared an intense love for all animals, and always had beloved dogs and cats by their side. Robin had a great love for her family, especially for her nieces and nephews, who she treated as her own children. She also loved cruising, spending time at the beach with her family, and she was an avid University of Maryland basketball fan.
Robin was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Shryock, mother Minnie Getzendanner, and brother Jay Getzendanner. Robin was survived by her cherished father, Joseph Getzendanner, Jr., who sadly passed away one day after Robin. She is survived by sisters Janice Riddle, Laurie Getzendanner, and Lynn Federline, sisters-in-law Patricia Getzendanner, Betty Wymer, and Vickie Hollis, and many adored nieces and nephews.
There will be a private celebration of Robin's life at a later date. Contributions in her memory may be made to your favorite animal charity.
