I came across something I had framed a long time ago. I'd packed it away and uncovered it when I moved. It was a poem about poppy flowers. My sister passed a few years before and I felt silly buying a birthday card and said so to the old man in the store. Unbeknownst to me that man was Mr. Kemp and he assured me I wasn't being silly at all. He was so nice, he talked with me. He talked about love and loss and how to appreciate the beauty in things. That got him to talking about Poppies. He showed me his poem. Before I left he gave me a copy of it signed and dated. He may not be the "world's greatest poet" but this poem serves as a memorial for my sister that hangs on my wall. I am a proud American and I love it that he signed it "for God and country", Samuel G. Kemp

To the Kemp family, so sorry to read about your Mom and Dads passing, I have a lot of fond memories of days going by. My Mom Bernice grew up knowing your Dad through the florist industry she even worked for him for about 13 years. Peace be with your family knowing that God has them in safe keeping.

Mr. Sam was always generous to the Brooklyn Park community. He would always hand you a carnation when you visited. Loved how he always flew the large American flag so proudly.
