Not sure what to say?

Judge Bloom hired me as a clerk in 1987, after an interview in which I was too nervous to say much, and he talked a lot about baseball.

Judge Bloom wanted my draft opinions on his desk before oral argument. With permission of the panel, he would file his opinion the day after oral argument in those rare instances where the appeal was especially ill-taken.

Judge Bloom once struggled with a recommendation for a former clerk who apparently had not performed well. We both chuckled with a line he came up with: "You'll be lucky if she works for you."

Judge Bloom was on a diet in those days. I never saw him eat an M&M. Conference days were especially difficult. The judges would order lunch delivered, but Judge Bloom didn't want anyone else to notice he was dieting. He said, "If they find out I'm on the Scarsdale diet, all the other judges will laugh at me!"

I have proofread this essay at least 5 times. Judge, I hope I got it right!

Dear Mrs. Bloom and Family,
I was shocked and sad to hear about Judge Bloom's passing. He often spoke of his family and loved to chat about cases. I remember his delicious egg nog he would gladly make for our holiday party. He will surely be missed here in COSA. You and your family are in my prayers.

Judge Bloom will be soooo missed. Almost every morning he would come by my desk and tell me a story or kept me current on the news of the day. As payment for the story I kept him supplied with M & Ms.

I have only very fond memories of Judge Bloom. He was always soft spoken, always with a smile and a true gentleman. He loved his family dearly and would love to talk about recent happenings. He was a bright spot in my day and taught me the difference between responding when asked how I was doing by "well" instead of "good". He would say "I know you are good." This memory of him will always remain with me.
My sincere condolences are with his family.

Mrs. Bloom and Family: I was so saddened to hear of Judge Bloom's passing. We saw him almost every day in the Clerk's Office at the Court of Special Appeals. He would greet us with a smile and share a story or two. We'd offer him bagels, cake and whatever other goodies we had. (Seems like we always had food.) Judge Bloom was kind and caring. He certainly was dedicated. He did not complain! What an extraordinary man. He always spoke so fondly of his Mary Lou. We will all miss his presence at the Court. We will hold his memory within our hearts. My thoughts are with you all.
