Col. Thomas J. Ahern (U.S.M.C. Ret.)

On September 5, 2001, COL. THOMAS J. AHERN (USMC Ret.). Col. Ahern served on active duty in the Marine Corp from 1939 to 1966 flying combat missions in the Pacific during WWII and in Korea. His decorations include The Legion of Merit, 2 distinguished Flying Crosses, The Bronze Star and eight Air Medals. Beloved husband of the late Rita Mary (nee Regan) Ahern. Devoted father of Thomas Ahern, Jr., Mary Ellen (nee Ahern) & Brandon Leopold, and Stephen Ahern & Penny Watkins. Also survived by brother, Charles Ahern and sister Ruth Shannon. Mr. Ahern was predeceased by brother Robert Ahern. Friends may call at the Slack Funeral Home, P.A., 3871 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, Saturday & Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church (Wilde Lake Interfaith Center), 10431 Twin Rivers Rd., at 12 noon.
