Wilbert Walker Obituary

Mr. Walker earned a bachelor's degree in Economics at Morgan State University and a master's in Social Work at Howard. He was the first Distinguished Military Graduate at Morgan in 1950.

He served in World War II as an Aviation Metalsmith, and was a First Lieutenant, Infantry in the Army. He served in combat in Korea, where he won the Combat Infantryman badge, the Korean Service Medal W/1 Bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal.

He is author of five books: "We Are Men", a memoir of the two wars, "The Pride of Our Hearts", a novel, and "Stalemate At Panmunjon", a novel, "Servants of All" a novel and "The Deputy's Dilemma", a memoir of thirty years in public social services.

Through dedication and professional competence, Mr. Walker rose steadily up the department's administrative ladder. He was appointed Deputy Directory of the Social Services Administration, Department of Human Resources. He held this position for eight years until his retirement.

Mr. Walker is a charter member of Trinity, along with his wife, Grace. The have one son, Ronald, a music educator in the Baltimore Public Schools. Both Grace and Ronald are graduates of Morgan.

An ordained Elder, he has also been Chairman of the Trustee Board. Furthermore, he has served the Presbytery on Committees on Ministry and Representation. At the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic he served on the Committee on Representation for five years. He is currently on the Board of Trustees for Synod.

Mr. Walker is Golden Heritage Life member of the NAACP, and a life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

Mr. Walker leaves behind, son Ronald L. Walker, daughter-in-law Kim Deneen Wilder-Walker, granddaughter Deneen Grace Walker, brother Moses L. Walker, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces, and great grand nephews. To God Be the Glory for the Life of Wilbert L. Walker.
