Carl Mench Obituary
Athens
Carl B. Mench, age 91, of Athens, passed away Thursday March 27, 2014 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born June 1, 1922 in Mosherville, MI. Carl was a veteran of the United States Army, serving three years during World War II. On June 14, 1947 he was united in marriage to the former Grace Louise Hayes of Athens, MI. Carl was employed by Consumers Power Co. for 36 years until his retirement in 1986.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Mench; their two living sons, Rod C. (Semera) Mench of Colorado Springs, CO and Gary (Linda) Mench of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Mench and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his son, Timothy J. Mench; father, Irving Mench; mother, Ila (Longworth) Mench Wood; step-father, Otto Wood; brother, Frank Mench and sister, Evelyn Knapp.
A memorial service for Carl will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, at Royal Estates Clubhouse, 8300 Ravine Road, Kalamazoo, with Rev. Jim Dyke officiating. Memorial contributions are to be made to Lindsey L. Mench, 10168 Avent Ridge Drive, Collierville, TN 39017, for medical bills fighting her brain cancer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Kalamazoo.
