Charles English Obituary

Charles Harold English

Battle Creek - Charles Harold English was a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend. He transitioned to eternal bliss on April 3, 2021.

Charles was born to the late Thomas English Jr. and Irine (Cooper) English on December 29, 1947 in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was the fourth of seven children.

He graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1966. After high school, he played college football in Kansas, he then attended Eastern Michigan University and received his Bachelor's degree from Northwood University. He served three years in the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam. In 2012, he retired from Kellogg's Company after 30 years of service.

We have extremely fond memories of him that we cherish dearly. Charles loved cars, sports, reggae music, riding his motorcycle, fishing, and discussing politics.

Charles leaves behind three daughters: Lynsey Marie (Atlanta, GA), Zulekha Iman (Michigan City, IN), and Ebony Ayesha (Philadelphia, PA). He also leaves behind one granddaughter: Ruby Anandi.

In addition, he is survived by his siblings: Beverly English (Chicago, IL), Donald (Arlena) English (Battle Creek, MI), Florence Andrews (Battle Creek, MI), and Ernest (Kim) English (Battle Creek, MI) along with one niece, several nephews, cousins, and special friends Darryl Flood and Wendy Wilkerson.

He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Irine English and his brothers Thomas (Sonny) English III and Robert English.

A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Whitley Memorial Chapel (321 Main Street Battle Creek, MI). Visitation will be at 11AM with the noon service to follow.

Charles was a better athlete than many know. A bit in the shadow of cousin Carl, Charles was an excellent football player and a good guard at basketball. I think of this friend often and I remember a good man.

I had the pleasure of working with Charles at Kellogg's. He always made me laugh and was a very caring and kind person. I will truly miss his friendship....a friendship that spanned a good 35 years.
Rest in Power Charles, until we meet again.

Charles was a very great friend of all of us at Kellogg. Everybody loved him and his sense of humor and quick wit. We did motorcycle rides together and always liked to discuss how bad our states professional sports teams were. The Lions, Pistons, Red Wings, & Tigers were all cellar dwellers in their respective leagues. He always stayed loyal to them even when I would laugh at him because they were soooo bad. Thank goodness that Charles had UM & MSU so he could keep some of his sanity!

I will truly miss our times together and his phone calls & texts we made to each other almost daily. RIP my friend you totally deserve it.

Charles was one of my best friends at Southwestern Jr. High and we remained friends thru high school and beyond. We had classes together, but mostly bonded because of sports. He was a good and an underappreciated athlete. One thing not mentioned in the obit was how funny he was. We had a lot of laughs together and he was a very kind person also. He was always the guy I was looking for at the class reunions. I sold my weight set to him and later on I would tell him he got strong because of me. Charles was the kind of person the world needs more of and I wish I would have stayed in touch with this very good man.

Our paths have crossed once in a while, last at our last reunion. I’ve always had good memories of charles; we went to Southwestern and BC Central in the same class. Charles always struck me as someone of good character and friendly. From one vet to another “Oorah”. My condolences to his family, he will always be in your hearts.

Charles was such a gem and a ray of bright (and sometimes mischievous ) light. Our paths crossed numerous times at Kellogg’s and every time they crossed he always left me with a smile on my face. My thoughts and prayers to his family and close friends.
