Patricia Clancy Obituary

Patricia A. "Pat" Clancy

Augusta, MI - Pat died Saturday morning, July 14, 2018 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, MI with her family at her side.

Pat, the daughter of Lawrence J. and Lucille D. (LaPorte) Coghlan, was born in Milwaukee, WI on March 22, 1931; attended St. Boniface Grade School and graduated from Messmer High School in Milwaukee. She then attended and graduated from St. Anthony De Padua School of Nursing in Chicago, in 1952. She had been employed as a Registered Nurse at Milwaukee Children's Hospital, then traveled to Michigan because of a need for nurses at Percy Jones Army Hospital in Battle Creek. While in Battle Creek, (In addition to meeting her husband) Pat also worked at Leila Hospital and Lakeview General Hospital and retired from Upjohn Nursing Home of Kalamazoo in 1995. Pat was a former member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church and St. Jerome Catholic Church, both Battle Creek and most recently was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church of Augusta, MI. She had volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Ann's and had also been very active with the March of Dimes.

Pat was united in marriage to Harry K. Clancy at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Milwaukee, WI on May 28, 1955 and he sadly preceded her in death on December 29, 1986. Surviving is the "Clancy Clan," two daughters, Mary & Mike Otto of Delton, MI and Kate & John Gould of Kalamazoo; six sons, Tim & Stacey Clancy, Dennis & Kellee Clancy and Chuck & Linda Clancy, all of Richland, MI, Mike & Sheila Clancy of Sturgis, MI, Bill & Diane Clancy of Hickory Corners, MI and Tom & Kim Clancy of Augusta, MI; twenty two precious grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Pat was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, James Joseph Clancy on October 20, 2016 and two brothers, Jim and Don Coghlan.

In her youth, Pat played and coached volleyball and swam competitively. Later in life, she enjoyed golfing and even played softball in a senior softball league well into her 60's. She commented at the time that she had watched her kids and grandkids in so many hundreds of ball games over the years that she thought she would give it a try herself. Throughout her life, a focal point was always family. Pat loved family gatherings, visits by children and grandchildren and any reason to get her large family together. She was always a willing hostess and her large Sunday dinners were yet another reason to get the gang together. When not watching family members participate in sporting events, Pat enjoyed Tiger Baseball, Notre Dame Football and being from Wisconsin, she still had a soft spot for the Green Bay Packers.

Pat's family will greet friends on Wednesday, July 18th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church Social Hall, 12648 East D Avenue, Augusta, MI 49012, where the family eulogy will be at 6:30 p.m. and the Parish Rosary will be recited in the Church at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 19th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church with Father Francis A. Marroti, Celebrant and Deacon Michael A. Carl assisting. Immediately following the Mass, family and friends will continue Pat's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon in the Church Social Hall. Sadly, although we were first cousins, I hadn't seen Pat in years, andI regret that. My father, Paul LaPorte was her uncle. Her obituary reflects a life well lived.

My sister, Suzanne, found Pat's obituary on the internet and passed it along to me.

I have many memories of family reunions and visits with her mom, Aunt Lou, and all the LaPorte relatives. I would be interested to meet The Clan.

My husband, Dan, and I live in Escanaba, Michigan and spend the winter months in Arizona. Our daughter and family live in Ann Arbor, and we do visit the lower peninsula.

My contact information follows.

I hope to hear from some of The Clan.

Most sincerely,
Kathy

So sorry for the loss of your mom. I remember her coming and going from the real estate office and helping where she could, when I first started with the business 18 years ago, she was very nice to me and I have thought of her often over the years.

I can't help but smile on the inside when I think about the legacy Pat is leaving behind. She taught a lot to her children and her children's children. Think about all the generations that have been and will be blessed by the life she lived.
