Rhan Chantrene Obituary

Rhan B. Chantrene Battle Creek Rhan B. Chantrene, 57, of Battle Creek, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday afternoon, June 26, 2009. He was born in Battle Creek on November 5, 1951 and was the son of Barton and Marion (Raub) Chantrene. Rhan served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1971 1977. He worked as an EMT with Bedford Township, Emmett Township and Battle Creek Ambulance services for many years and still was a member of the Battle Creek Emergency Services Team and served the community as a Storm Watcher. Through the years, Rhan was employed at EPI, US Lumber, Carter Lumber and Southwest Michigan Search and Rescue Team. Rhan married Nancy L. Finney in Battle Creek on January 7, 1972: she survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Cathy S. (Carl) Fox of Union City and Joy L. (Todd) Crane, Sr. of Battle Creek; 8 grandchildren-Jessica, Paige, Alyssa, Matthew, Haylee, Edward, Sadie and Todd, Jr.; 2 sisters, Linda (Max) Clark of Bellevue, MI and Carol (Timothy) Hicks of Battle Creek; his father-in-law, Jesse Finney; a special friend, Ann Stetler; and his constant companion, Spike, his rottweiler. Rhan was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Richard Finney and mother-in-law, Lois Finney. Rhan enjoyed NASCAR especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jr., cook-outs with family and friends and spending time with his grandchildren. At the request of Rhan's family, friends may call on Tuesday, June 30th at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service to celebrate Rhan's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 1st at the Funeral Home. with Rev. Robert G. Muirhead, officiating. Full, military honors will be bestowed at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, by the U.S. Army and the Fort Custer Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rhan's honor may be made to the Battle Creek Emergency Services or Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice. TO THE FAMILY OF RHAN B.CHANTRENE I WAS SORRY TO HEAR OF THE PASSING OF RHAN I WORKED WITH RHAN FOR MANY YEARS AT THE BEDFORD RESCUE SQUAD AND MADE MANY RUNS AND WORKED THE RACES ALOT WITH RHAN AT THE GALESBURG SPEEDWAY.THERE WAS NEVER A DULL MOMENT WHEN YOU WORKED WITH RHAN HE LOVED WHAT HE WAS DOING AND MADE THE JOB OF SAVING LIVES FUN.MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO TO THE FAMILY I KNOW YOU WILL MISS HIM BUT ALWAYS LOOK BACK TO THE GOOD MEMORIES WE HAVE.
