Garth Sheley Obituary
A Celebration of Life for Garth Arden Sheley of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 24, 2016, at Promise Land Bible Church, with Pastor Mike Brinkmeier officiating. A fellowship and pot luck will follow at the Promise Land Community Center. Military Honors will be provided by the Ozark V.F.W. Post # 3246 and Unites States Navy Honor Guards.
Garth passed away July 6, 2016, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 89. He was born October 13, 1926, in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Darcy and Ferne Branning Sheley. Garth was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He married Clara Mae Schultz on June 22, 1946, in Rockford. He opened Creative Art & Sign Company in Rockford in 1954 and moved the business to the Promise Land area 1967. He was a member of the VFW, CB/Ham Radio Club, Promise Land Volunteer Fire Department and the Promise Land Area Community Organization (PLACO). He enjoyed geo caching, woodworking, building model airplanes and spelunking.
Garth is survived by his wife of 70 years, Clara M. Sheley of Mountain Home, AR; son, Steven (Marsha) Sheley of Loves Park, IL; three daughters, Darcie (Joseph) Didden of Oakland, AR, Doreen (Bill) Plimmer of Mountain Home, and Colleen (William) Stephenson of Mountain Home; daughter-in-law, Cali Sheley of Mountain Home, AR; two brothers, Lyle (Mary) Sheley of Rockford, IL and Dale (Mary) Sheley of Rockford; 15 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, JoAnn Sheley; son, Glenn Sheley and brother, Carroll Sheley.
Memorials may be made to the Oakland Promise Land Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 108, Oakland, AR 72661.

Hello Everyone. So sorry this is late, However, my mom, Jill Ann Branning Bush wanted to find a book that was illustrated by her cousin, Garth, knowing he was an artist. I said I would find out what I could online for her. And in this endeavor I found that Garth had passed.
My Mom is the daughter of Glenn and Fran Branning, and sister of Jack Branning and Susan would be my cousin and my moms niece.
I can't remember Garth, although my mom has a great memory of him, and I wonder when I was younger (around 7 oe 8) during one of the cross county outings My grandfather, grandmother and mom went on that I met Garth. Maybe I was just having too much fun playing in the lake~!
I will download what I can find about Garth for my mom, although she sees things as 'just yesterday' which, in some ways may be just fine. I'm sure this will make her very sad, but, when we all pass through the portals of death, we will all be reunited. If there is such a book, or books that cousin Garth illustrated, it would give Jill (my mom) great comfort. You can reach me at [email protected]. Jill is now in assisted living and doing as well as can be expected. she is 88.

So sorry for your loss. My Dad (Jack Branning) and Garth were close in the early years of their lives, and beyond. I visited their sign shop several times. May you be comforted by your family and friends and your belief in our Lord Jesus Christ.
