Jerald Verley Obituary

Jerald "Jerry" Victor Verley of Cotter, Arkansas, passed away April 21, 2025, in Fayetteville, Arkansas at the age of 88.

He was born Oct. 25, 1936, in Quinnesec, Michigan, the son of Victor Rufus and Rose Ciochetto Verley. He was a proud Merchant Mariners card holder. He moved on to work for A.O. Smith Corporation in Wisconsin and eventually transferred to Little Rock, Arkansas. He later had a lengthy career at Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company as a heavy duty automotive mechanic, before his retirement in 1998.

Jerry lived in Cotter since moving from Ishpeming, Mich., in 2001. He married Peggy (Paschall) Smith in 2009 at Hopewell Baptist Church. He enjoyed trout fishing and took many fishing trips to Canada over the years. Jerry also enjoyed deer hunting. He was a devoted member of Faith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Flippin, Arkansas.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Peggy Verley of Cotter, Ark.; daughters Sandy (Gerry Jarvis) Wuorenmaa of Ishpeming, Mich., and Debbie (Mike) Elliott of Minnetonka, Minn.; son Dan Verley of Ishpeming, Mich.; grandchildren Christopher (Emily) Robinson of Kewanee, Ill., Matthew (Amanda) Verley of Dallas, Ore., Jerry Wuorenmaa of Bergland, Mich., Andrea (Stu McGowan) Wuorenmaa of Commerce City, Colo., Courtney (Luke) Alfuth of Eden Prairie, Minn., Ashlee (Sergio Gamarra) White of Mankato, Minn., and Lindsey (Ryan Erickson) White of Cedar Falls, Iowa; brothers Ray Verley of Grafton, Wis., and Jim Verley of Vulcan, Mich.; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Florence Verley; son, Larry Verley; and brothers, Dale, Terry,and Ronnie Verley.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time. A Celebration of Life for Jerry will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Johnny Shew officiating.

Memorials may be made to Faith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1441, Flippin, AR 72634.
