Dr. Maxwell Cheney

Mountain Home - Dr. Maxwell G. Cheney, 84, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018. He was born in Calico Rock, Arkansas, on May 20, 1933, to James Orville and Alma M. (Gillihan) Cheney.

Dr. Max Cheney was a well-known physician in Mountain Home for over 52 years. He was very instrumental in improving health care here in Mountain Home. Some of his accomplishments include starting the second medical clinic in Mountain Home, starting a renal dialysis unit, placing the first pacemaker at Baxter Regional Medical Center, serving as Chief of Staff several times at BRMC and most recently being honored by the Mountain Home Education Foundation for his dedicated community service to the sports program. Dr. Cheney enjoyed hunting, especially bow-hunting, and was an avid skeet shooter.

Dr. Cheney is survived by his wife, Joan Marie Cheney of the home; three sons, Mark Cheney of Mountain Home, Max Cheney, Jr. of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Andy Cheney and wife Nicole of High Ridge, Missouri; one daughter, Dr. Lori Cheney and husband Jay Sabella of Mountain Home; and four grandchildren, Jacob Cheney, Kylee Sabella, Cayden Sabella and Abigail Cheney. He is preceded in death by his parents.



A visitation will be held from noon-9:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018, at Roller Funeral Home Chapel. A private service will follow on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Donald W. Reynolds Library, Joyce Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund at Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the Mountain Home Christian Clinic.
