Peter Mackercher Obituary

Peter Angus Mackercher II was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, on June 27, 1946, to Peter Angus Mackercher, M.D. and Mildred Marie Wright.

Dr. Mackercher graduated from Ponca City High School (Oklahoma) in 1964. He then graduated from Westminister College (Fulton, Missouri) in 1968. After that, he went to the University of Missouri (Columbia, Missouri), where he completed medical school, as well an internship and residency in Internal Medicine and a Gastroenterology Fellowship.

He became a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy and served two years at the Navy Hospital in Great Lakes, Illinois. In 1974, he married Ellen Annette Cooper, and he built a 40-year medical practice in Mountain Home, Arkansas at Baxter Regional Hospital. He served in many leadership capacities in the medical field and served on various boards (soccer and church). He also served on the Advisory Council of ASU in Mountain Home from 1995-2001.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; two children, Rachel and Peter III (Bridget Doherty); four grandchildren: Malachi and Kale Mackercher-May of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Mackenzie and Peter Mackercher IV of St. Louis, Missouri; along with many nieces and nephews.

Dr. Mackercher is preceded in death by his parents; sister Christina Hamilton Mackercher Humann; and brother-in-laws Robert Chandler and Cecil Cooper.

Dr. Mackercher was an excellent husband, father, grandfather, friend, physician and mentor to many. In his eyes, there was never a stupid question, only the one you were afraid to ask. His true specialty was listening.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2 at Roller Funeral Home. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian Church on State Highway 5 South, with military honors and will be live streamed.

A graveside service will follow the services at Baxter Memorial Gardens at Roller Funeral Home. After the burial, there will be a reception at the Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian Church fellowship hall, where coffee, punch and cookies will be served.

He was a soccer enthusiast and also was very concerned about food hunger, education, conservation and the environment. Instead of flowers, the family asks people to make a donation to their favorite charity. Pete's favorite charity was Twin Lakes Community Foundation at 1216 Hwy. 62 E., Mountain Home, AR 72653.
